KingpinQ3 is a clone of Xatrix's Kingpin - Life of Crime.
Our goal is to merge Kingpin's unique atmosphere and gameplay with the capabilites of a highly modified Id-Tech3 engine. The Id-Tech3 engine was released under the GPL a few years ago and KingpinQ3 is based on this engine which has been significantly modified.
KinpinQ3 never was a Quake3 mod and it never will be. We have started the development of KingpinQ3 after the GPL-release. KingpinQ3 is a noncommercial project, it will be a FREE standalone game available for PC, Mac, Linux. We have no public releases yet (only internal alphas).
KingpinQ3 will provide the following gamemodes:
All gamemodes listed above can be played with four different weapon-modes:
KingpinQ3 is designed as a Online-Multiplayergame only, but it will support bots so you can play offline against them on regular maps.
Another notable feature of KingpinQ3 is the controversial "Bunnyhop".
The project was founded in Oct. 2006 by the autor of this arcticle.
KingpinQ3 is, as already mentioned above, a clone of Kingpin and this fact may pose the question:
Is KingpinQ3 a legal project ?
KingpinQ3 will not use any files of Kingpin at the point of release. Currently there are some original Kingpin files still in the game but they are being replaced by rebuilt versions as development continues.
Surely, cloning a game or any other product may be a controversial matter because the developers safe alot of work by cutting down the concept-phase. But I know a few products which have been cloned and they are legal products. A well-known example is Linux, Linux is a Unix clone and i've never heard anybody say "Linux is illegal".
Hello everybody, after dealing with KingpinQ3 for about eight years we are proud to announce a Beta release of KingpinQ3. You can download the game here.
The beta includes three ctf and bagman maps and four deathmatch maps. We have a couple of server running for Capture the flag, Bagman, Team Deathmatch, Hitmen, Realmode and Gangbang.
The beta also includes everything you need to create custom maps on windows (radiant, compilefrontend, tons of textures and map-models).
Supported operation systems are currently windows, linux 32-bit and linux 64-bit.
I've created a forum for feedback and bug reports here.
So have fun.

Looks pretty neat.
Dead?
i wouldn't call it dead, or alive...
a few bugs have been fixed that people reported from beta 1
i'm looking through maps to see what ones can be included in next beta, with minimal work
MrD has added a small frag'er map for release
some one also hacked the server so we lost the bug tracker
Sexy images !
Is there any hope of this still being alive?
Edit:
Scratch that, if you go to their site: Kingpinq3.com
You'll see it's still being worked on!
any chance for an update?
Just change the name to something else, but tell everybody that it is inspired by Kingpin and you won't have any legal woes. I think that the multiplay maps for Kingpin are incredible, and to think that they were made on the Quake 2 Engine. Making realistic city scenes on such an old engine is nothing to be scoffed at. Obviously, I am interested in what you will do with the Quake 3 engine.
Groovy! Added to tracking...
