A hand-drawn, hand-animated 3D game in development for PC, Mac and Linux platforms. Using traditional animation in a way you never thought possible to create something truly unique. Made by hopeful Canadian indie developer Andrew Hlynka. A platformer/puzzle/adventure title. Control James through a surreal, dreamlike world filled with interesting characters, on a quest to recover his memory and find out his name. Features HD traditional animation to make the characters come to life, using psueudo-3D methods from older games, but built from the ground up to take advantage of modern hardware.

Hello, friends!I should have done this long ago, but this is my IndieDB page for my indie game "James - Journey of Existence," a 3D platformer/puzzle/adventure that features hand-drawn, traditional animation. If you haven't seen it in action before, it really is something to behold! Help James explore a strange land in search of his real name (yes, he doesn't know his name is James despite in being in the game's title).

My Kickstarter campaign around the early alpha of the game is doing lousy, but I intend to continue working on and improving the game as I can. This project is based first and foremost on expanding the use of traditional animation in a way you've never quite seen before, using methods similar to games like "Dont' Starve" or "Wolfenstein" but rebuilt from the ground up to take advantage of modern hardware.

What's you're favorite animated movie/television-show? If you could see a game that looked exactly like it, would you be interested? Yes, the art style is crude now for "James - Journey of Existence," but if a professional artist were to let loose with this method of "modeling," the possibilities would be very exciting...

Until then, I welcome all criticism and questions!

Interesting concept, must be an immense amount of work to execute.

Very much so. A single character can take hundreds of frames for a simple animation, purely because of how many "perspectives" the animation can be seen from.

Even more work to redraw the character with a new design. It's a good thing I love to draw!
