Jacob Crane began the war as a Lieutenant on the C.C.T. Myrmidon, a Cruiser Class Tempest (CCT). Hailing from a ghetto on Earth, he worked persistently to rise above his low social status and emerged as a fine officer in the UCE navy. During the 2230s he served on the C.C.T. Myrmidon as the UCE attempted to quell cartel groups in the Outer Colonies. Sometime during his five year tour of duty between 2234-2238 he met N.D. a colonist from Keline who had immense stature amongst the trade guilds.

N.D. and Crane struck a friendship and exchanged frequent correspondence and after the Massacre of Keline and the birth of the new revolutionary state, the Atlas Confederacy of Planets, Crane was persuaded by his friend to join the rebel cause. At first N.D. had assigned Crane several menial tasks and without a proper fleet Crane was left with a collection of former ore haulers and refinery ships. He turned this mothball fleet into a well-drilled flotilla as he battled the UCE garrisons across the Middle Colonies.

By 2242, Crane’s guerrilla tactics began to wear on the UCE fleet, earning his large armada several victories. Crane began to view his fleet as invincible, however when N.D. recalled him without reason from the Battle of New Byzantium, a Middle Colony that had not yet submitted to the Confederate Government, Crane began to doubt N.D.’s leadership. Further tension arose in 2243 when Crane began to disagree with N.D. over certain policies that ‘mirrored the corporatist agenda’ and he began to believe that N.D.’s revolution was nothing more than a grab for power and not a true grassroots revolution that the people desperately needed.

Due to his increasing resentment of N.D. and his movement, Crane defected to the UCE in 2244. Immediately after his defection, Crane was grilled by UCE intelligence forces, as well as Admiral Marcus Perry. Crane, now wanting to give the ACP a quick death, gave all information willingly and was harbored by the UCE in a ‘safe-house’ on Earth the only independent world in the UCE’s space.

Due to Earth’s shaky relations with the UCE, N.D. learned of Crane’s whereabouts and Alexis Thompson the chance to prove herself by assassinating Crane. Alexis was a child of the war and only 16 years old in 2246 when she left on a mission to assassinate Jacob Crane. For her entire life all she knew was war, carnage, and bloodshed. N.D. had personally found the young girl in 2239 in the aftermath of the liberation of Crius. She was hiding in a basement in a small mining town which had been annihilated by the UCE for their allegiance to the ACP. N.D. began to care for her as a daughter and had her trained in the art assassination along with several other children he and his agents found in the Middle Colonies.

By 2246, Alexis was a leading member of the Maidens of the Hunt, an assassination organization working directly under N.D. and she was by far his most treasured agent. Alexis routinely dined with N.D. and discussed the state of the war. Alexis viewed N.D. as a father figure, often taking his advice when working on a hunt. In 2246 she left for Earth on an unmarked Yukon Class Shuttle.

On Earth she witnessed the ghettos that had been dug out in the centers of once great cities to harbor refugees of the war and she saw the brutality of the UCE at every turn. It only pulled her closer to the rebel cause. She linked up with an Atlas Agent in New York City and found the safe-house Jacob Crane was staying in. There she slaughtered Crane’s UCE protectors before decapitating him on a live video feed, broadcast to the entire Orion Sector. Her only words were, “Death to traitors”.

Before Crane was killed however he muttered to Alexis that, “This is the revolution? What a farce.” These words, caught on the live recording dealt a significant blow to the ACP’s reputation.

Unfortunately for N.D. before Alexis’s arrival, Crane was able to deliver one final piece of information to the UCE admiralty, the defense plan for the capital world of Atlas. In the coming weeks the UCE would mobilize and make haste for the ACP’s capital planet setting into motions what would become one of the pivotal points in the war.
