Hurricane 2D is the successor to the 2005 Hurricane for BYOND. In Hurricane 2D your goal is only to survive a deadly hurricane, but that's easier said than done. Not only do you need to manage building a makeshift shelter in time to survive the deadly debris and flooding, but you must also manage your body temperature in an attempt to prevent hypothermic shock, gather food to fend off starvation, and mend broken limbs. Couple that with 100% random level generation and you're in for a game with loads of replayability.

Hello everyone! I'll try and keep this update short and concise.

Shortcuts

Alright, so the first think I'll touch upon are the newly added shortcuts. There aren't going to be many of them, but I felt that using the mouse to manually click on every little thing got a tad too tedious. Shortcuts will always be enabled, but you can toggle the ability to see the shortcuts themselves with the "V" key.

Resource Gathering!

The next big thing I've added is [finally] the ability to gather and use resources. It's pretty simple, just chop down a tree or mine a rock and you'll generate resources. You then build whatever you want to consume them. Currently the survival menu isn't done, therefore you cannot use your food or leaves gathered yet, but soon enough you'll be able to!

Repairing!

A friend of mine suggested I add repairing when he was testing the gathering mechanic. So I did! Anyone familiar with MMOs will understand how this works. Essentially while you have your gather tool out, if you right-click any of your walls that are damaged (aside from half-walls that can only be damaged by flood water) and you'll begin repairing them. This takes roughly a second and will be cancelled upon you doing anything else. Moving, clicking on something, switching tools, etc will all cancel it. Repairing costs 1 wood.

A New Name for the Game!

So this is more of a notice than anything, but I'm planning to change the name of the game. Upon research I realized that googling "Hurricane 2D" resulted not with this game, but something else. I had to google "Hurricane 2D Game" to find my game. Therefore I'm planning to rename the game, but I don't know what to yet! If anyone has any suggestions I'd be glad to hear them. Currently I'm thinking of using "Hurricane: Shelter Simulator 20XX", but again, I'm not sure.

Anyhow, as always if you have any questions just ask away, I'll gladly answer them!

Well, I was a HUUUUGE fan of this game on BYOND. me and a couple of my friends use to play all the time, and were pretty sad when you couldn't host the game anymore.

So, Single-Player can't be your idea of an improvement to your fun survival game. Nothing will top Murder-Mansion, even DBTC was an incredibly fun game dude. These games are all multiplayer necessary! (maybe DBTC aside, which stands alone as a Single PLayer rpg.) The reason these games are great is because they are multiplayer- you can play with your friends and watch as a piece of drift-wood flies and kills them on impact. or you split up in the creepy house and hear a scream outside, you run out to the storming night to find his body stabbed multiple times. (Best Clue-like game ever created.)

Reconsider it, maybe even return back to BYOND if the game making software your using doesn't jive well with Online. You really had something with those games, the round based survive as long as you can style game was real exciting.

Sadly, I would probably invest no time in to the game if it was Single-Player. Though if you decide to keep going, good-luck!

Was always a fan -

The issue with multiplayer is that BYOND made it easy. It's something I don't actually know how to program, and if I did it it'd likely be a case of there being no in-game chat and you'd have to connect via IP. I recently begun reprogramming the game from scratch so it's something I am wanting to look into now, but if I spend a week and get absolutely no where at it I'll likely just give up for the time being. I'd rather get a single-player game out there in a few months than no game at all after a year because I don't know how to do networking.

No. I put the game on hold due to something feeling off with it. Recently I've started reprogramming the game from scratch (though mostly retaining the art assets and such). The way I programmed it initially turned out to be too limiting.

No. I decided to make the sequel Single-Player only. The reason for this is two-fold: 1) It's easier, and given the complexity of the game as it MP would only make it more difficult for me to program. 2) The first game has a huge issue right now, and that's that no one hosts servers for it. It's just boring without other players, so my goal is to create a fun SP experience in Hurricane 2D. If I get the chance to make another Hurricane game then it will definitely be multiplayer again.
