7) Offensive Strategy

a) There are four types of offense. As a start, it is best to concentrate on one type of offense, and stick with it. Look at the players you have and their strengths and decide which offense will suit you the most. Take into account which positions benefit from each type of offense, so that you can decide which qualities to improve in which players (this is of particular importance for individual practices).

b) Man Off – Zone Off – do you want to focus on offense against man or against zone defense. If you only practice against man, but your opponent plays zone, then you’ll have serious difficulty scoring.

c) Fast Break – counter-attacking – what do you want your players to do when they counter-attack.

d) Emphasis – what to focus on when you practice your offense. Each of these items affects the offense of the team. It is important to spread the points in the right way, based on the type of offense you play.

For example, if you have two good players and you want them to play Pick and Roll more often. Then you’ll need to emphasize Isolation and Pick and Roll. This way the team will know how to isolate a side of the court to allow the others to play their two-man-game.

Ball movement is the most important aspect to work on!

8) Defensive Strategy

a) Four types of defense – zone and man. Same principle as the offensive strategy. Stick with the defense you choose.

Don’t forget that both offensive and defensive strategies depend on how much you work on offense and defense during practice (see Practice Plan).

9) Team Scouting – information about your next opponent. If you’ve already met a team during the season, the information will be more detailed.

10) Results

11) Stats

a) Team Leaders – Individual stats of each player on every team.
You can use the exclamation marks (!) to mark players with three different colors. You can do that to mark the best players on your team, or on your opponents’ teams.

b) Team Comparison – compare the team stats

c) MVP Race – most valuable players during the season.

d) Career Stats – accumulated stats from all the seasons for a player

e) History – the achievements of every team

12) Standings

a) League Table

b) Power Ranking – the teams are classified based on their current strength.

13) Finances

a) Upgrade equipment and gear. This will allow you to increase the workload of practices. Upgrades will also have an effect on sponsors. Some companies require updates before you can negotiate a better deal with them.

b) Search for financing – ways to find money for the team

i) Parents – you can ask players’ parents for money. Some might agree, but in return they’d want their kid to play. This could have a negative effect on the player and on the rest of the team, especially if he’s not one of the most talented players.

ii) Businesses – companies you can ask for sponsorship. You can get two small and one bigger sponsor. Each company has requirements which need to be fulfilled if you want to reach a favorable deal for the team. You can negotiate with a certain company once a month. Each deal is until the end of the season, if it is signed in the fall, and until the end of next season, if it signed in the spring.

iii) Municipality – in certain cases the municipality will be willing to lend you money for upgrades.

14) Available Players – at any time you can sign new players to the team. You can have a minimum of 15 players on the roster, and a maximum of 20. Players, who have already played for another team during the season, cannot be signed. Those players will be added to the recruits list, and you can recruit them.

15) Recruits – the list of players that you’re interested in. The Desire column next to the name shows their willingness to join the team. Click on their profile to see recruiting options, which will increase a player’s desire to join the team.

16) Options

a) Edit Team – you can edit the name of the team, as well as the names of the players. You can only do that in the offseason!

b) The game makes an AUTOSAVE before the beginning of each game. In case it crashes, which is quite possible for amateur games like mine J

c) If the game crashes, you can load the last AUTOSAVE by loading the button at the bottom of the Load Menu (even if there is no text next to the button).

17) When you’re happy with everything you’ve done, click Confirm, then Continue, and this will move you to the next day, or the next event that needs your response.

18) CALCULATOR – when you go to the Roster menu, click on Analysis. This will send you to a menu in which you can compare the skills of each player, without changing the team rotation (starters, subs, reserves). When you click Change Rotation, this will make the rotation the same as the list in the analysis menu. If you click Reset, the players will be sorted based on their rotation. The calculator allows you to create your own formulas. You can sort the players based on that formula. ATTENTION!!!! Do not make math mistakes in the calculator (especially division by zero) because that will likely cause the game to crash. For example, if your players haven’t played a game yet during the season, do not divide by PPG – points per game.

19) If a player is fatigued you can rest him by clicking on his profile, and then giving him rest for the time you wish.

ACTUAL GAMES (Not practice)

1) The game begins, when you click Start/Pause

2) Main Scorer – who do you want to be the player who shoots the ball the most

3) Outside Iso – outside isolation. A player plays one-on-one

4) Post Iso – isolation in the paint. One-on-one

5) 2 Man Game – two players play together on one side of the court, trying to make a play

The execution of these assignments depends on the experience and morale of the players, as well as their emotion. A lot depends on Offensive Emphasis – if you haven’t practiced Isolation 2, 3, 4, and 5 will not work very effectively.

6) Choose the type of offense you want to play

7) Quick Tempo – play faster, Slow Tempo – play slower

8) Go Inside – try to score by going to the rim

9) Shoot 3’s – shoot more 3 pointers. In a more experienced team, the better shooters will shoot the ball. At the end of the game, if you need a 3 pointer to win or tie the game, if somebody’s open – he’ll most likely shoot. Maybe your best player isn’t able to get the ball…

10) 4 Off Reb – crash the boards on offense – get 4 people to rebound the ball. This increases your chance of an offensive rebound, but it also increases the chance of giving the opposition an easy basket.

11) Double Team – double team an opposing player. In case somebody scores a lot of points, maybe it’s a good idea to double team him. This will leave other players more open though.

12) Team Reb – gang rebounding – everybody goes to rebound on defense. This gives you a better chance of getting the ball back, but it also decreases your chance to run a fast break.

13) Take Charge – tell your players to try and take charges. This can win you possession of the basketball, but your players might get in foul trouble as well.

14) Nothing Easy – don’t allow easy baskets. Tell your players to foul if they have to.

15) Four types of defense – pressure defense will tire your players more quickly than half-court defense

16) Intentional foul – usually used at the end of games if you want to stop the clock. You try to catch up with your opponent, hoping that they will miss the free throws.

17) Take Timeout – the next time the clock stops you get a one-minute time-out. You can change tactics, make subs, check the stats of both teams during that time.

18) Subs – you can only make a substitution, without making any other changes

19) Defensive Matchups – assign defensive matchups to players. When you or your opponent makes a substitution, the matchups are reset.

20) Opponent Tactics – what tactics is your opponent running

21) Momentum – the team who has momentum at the moment.

22) Opponent Ratings – in the course of the game you will find more about the opponent players’ ratings.

23) 2 for 1 – at the end of every quarter you have a chance to tell your team to try to use this strategy. If you have a chance, when there are 30 seconds left in the quarter, the players will try to attack the basket. This way they have a chance to make another attack before the end of the quarter.

24) Run Clock – the opposite – the team will shoot at the last possible moment.

GAME SCORE

For every action you make during the game you will earn points. At the end of the season and after you finish a tournament, you earn Reputation. Reputation will give you a chance to participate in the ALL STAR TOURNAMENT. In it you have a chance to play against the best teams in the game. If you win it, your team will be uploaded to the game server, so that other players can play against it.

Pressing SPACE during a game will bring GAME SPEED back to 1
