Description
A CHALLENGING, FANTASTICAL ARTILLERY GAME SET IN AN IMAGINARY 1920s ART DECO WORLD WITH A SINGLE PLAYER STORY MODE AND TURN BASED LOCAL MULTIPLAYER - INSPIRED BY THE CLASSIC QBASIC GORILLAS.BAS.
History
One of my favorite games growing up was Qbasic Gorillas that came with MS-DOS. I remember tweaking the source code as a kid and feeling empowered, and it was the start of 20 years as a software developer.
About 4 years ago, I decided to use it as a teaching tool to help a close friend (co-developer Alex Boyles) to learn to program - a way to be excited about programming by creating something fun. So we decided to mimic the classic game, and, little did we know it at the time that we would take a wrong turn somewhere and end up spending 4 years on a passion project.
GORILLA TOWN takes inspiration from King Kong, classic artillery games, old radio broadcasts, absurdist humor, art deco posters and architecture, jazz music, Doom, BioShock, and crazy ideas given to us by 5 year old kids. We mashed them all together in a small game you can play alone or huddled around a PC with friends that hopefully captures the spirit of old-school computer gaming with some modern sensibilities. We made it for adults and kids alike - so if you have little ones, please have them try it out - they love blowing things up.
