Hello everyone! In this devlog I’m going to explain how you become stronger between the battles in Godless.
What Is Godless? It is a turn-based strategy with rogue-like elements where you play as the last god of a fantasy world. Other gods were defeated by mortals and you made your goal to take the revenge on them by destroying all continents on the planet.
A Talented God
Once you destroy a continent, you can visit a few places to enhance your battle efficiency. The first place on the way is the Chamber. Here, you can learn talents for energy obtained mainly as a battle reward. Basically, a talent is a passive skill which works each battle. For example, there is a talent creating a tomb, which periodically summons friendly vampires. Sometimes talents are pretty straight forwarded and just heal all friends every few turns or let them buff each other on death.
Energies as well as talents belong to different elements. To obtain energy of a specific element, you should equip an artifact of this element and win a battle with it. Creation of an artifact is a quite simple process: you visit the Forge, choose two resources called sparks of creation and see what they will merge into. For example, two sparks of death merge into Daroust, the helmet of one of the most cruel rulers in the history. What about a spark of fire and a spark of death? They will combine into Shanazar, a relic of the ancient cult. To put it simple, you can combine sparks as you wish and watch how it will work out.
Runic Power
Before the battle you choose an artifact which define three main skills available in the battle. You can change the skills’ effects by encrusting artifacts with runes purchasable between the continents. For example, the artifact called Twins can cover the battlefield with meteor shower. Normally, meteors hit random hexes, but with a specific rune they will hit only the ones with landscape objects on them (forests, swamps etc.). Runes can turn your strategy upside down and show surprisingly good combinations.
