Gentrieve 2 is a "Metroid"-style 3D action game featuring completely random & customizable worlds. The year is 3080. Mass Generators are creating everything, everywhere. However, thieves often steal Mass Generators in hopes of creating robot armies & fortresses. Thieves are terrible programmers, though, and their creations become uncontrollably hostile & fortresses wildly convoluted. It is your job to clear out these fortresses & return the faulty Mass Generators. Be warned, when the Mass Generator is taken offline, the fortress will soon implode!

Hey all,

This is primarily a balancing update based on forum feedback. Changes in v1.5 should provide a more balanced and fun experience as the game progresses. Enemies will generally have less health later in the game & be vulnerable to more weapons. I’ve also made the “Advanced Vision” upgrade appear later in the game, but be easier to find — this should make it easier to find secret rooms that have important health boosts (and more). Finally, when you are low on health, I made enemies always drop needed items (like more health).

Gentrieve 2 is entering a “maintenance” mode, like 3079. Therefore, it will continue to be supported with bugfixes & balancing tweaks over time, but the game is otherwise finished. This is because Gentrieve 2 has reached a stable & fun milestone and development time is going to shift to my next big project: 3089!

Complete changes:

  1. Health will now drop instead of nothing when player is <50% health
  2. Enemy weapon immunity has been tweaked & made more balanced
  3. Enemy health will increase slower as game difficulty increases
  4. Fixed “Shields” item description text
  5. “Advanced Vision” will now be placed later in the game, but more easily discovered

Nice!
First of all, congrats on reaching "maintenance" mode. You created a really cool game with Gentrieve 2.

The 3089 terrain looks great, and I love that you are planning to procedurally generate even more components than 3079. I guess the biggest challenge will be making the combat feel rewarding in a way that really highlights the random enemy and weapon generation!

I'm a big fan of the loot in Borderlands 2, and I've tried some Torchlight 2 as well, but interestingly enough, some of the most satisfying pieces of loot I ever found was in 3079, mainly because there was equipment that increased my movement speed. :)
