Gentrieve 2 is a "Metroid"-style 3D action game featuring completely random & customizable worlds. The year is 3080. Mass Generators are creating everything, everywhere. However, thieves often steal Mass Generators in hopes of creating robot armies & fortresses. Thieves are terrible programmers, though, and their creations become uncontrollably hostile & fortresses wildly convoluted. It is your job to clear out these fortresses & return the faulty Mass Generators. Be warned, when the Mass Generator is taken offline, the fortress will soon implode!

I've been playing 3079 a lot the last couple of weeks and was just thinking about this project. Was really excited to see there's a playable. I've only played four or five generators and haven't gotten very far, but it's a lot of fun and the aesthetic is really enjoyable. I love the concept and your use of random generation. You could really apply it to any genre and make it your own. I was never big on Castlevania or Metroid, but I love Descent and it reminds me of that, too.

Definitely worth the money. Excited to watch it grow. I'll try to come up with some helpful comments as I get used to it. Haven't noticed any bugs, but in the intro I think you spelled "thieves" and "retrieves" wrong. ;)

I finally got a chance to purchase the game. I like it a lot too. My comments are short, so I won't create a new topic for them.

I found the textures really interesting. How are they being generated? Did you write some code for generating fractals?
Combat feels more satisfying than 3079...I'm not sure why, but it just feels like the projectiles have more impact. Perhaps its because of the enemy sections lighting up when they get hit. Good job on that.
I haven't gotten too far in any generated world yet. I don't have much Metroidvania experience, but I enjoy the challenge.

Hey tangoliber,

I use a bunch of seamless textures from Patrick Hoesly (on flikr) as "base" textures. Then, I tweak the color and potentially mix it with another tweaked "base" texture. Finally, I stretch it to fit the object it is texturing, with a little variation.

Glad you are enjoying it so far -- more updates to come!
