We provisionally expect to have a public pre-alpha build of Gang Beasts completed in the next month with some sample content for playtesting; we still have a glut of changes to make before we want to make it public, specifically:
- improved game controller support (PS3 Dual Shock, XBOX 360 controllers etc.)
- additional fight moves
- a Gang Beasts Title Screen / Logo
- a Boneloaf ident animation
- basic menu / level selection screen
- drop-in / drop-out support (support for players joining / leaving mid-game)
- basic in-game sound / music
- fixes for the basic AI
- window-cleaning gondolas
these modifications are the technical implementations that we wanted to include before making a public pre-alpha to minimise annoyances and improve accessibility etc; implementing these modifications at this stage has slowed the addition of new content to the game, but we did make time to make a scene with partially destructible window-cleaning gondolas which we plan to include in a pre-alpha build (please see the video for a demonstration of the potential hazards of fighting on permanently suspended window-cleaning scaffolds).
We are currently planning to support Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X 10.8+ in the first pre-alpha builds (the custom input manager we are using doesn't support Linux currently, we are planning to set up a Linux box to test support for Linux compatible game controllers in a later build).
