That's quite a pretty menu, certainly a huge improvement by comparison. I'd say that the GUI and HUD in general could do well with such a makeover. I like all of those ideas, and I'd hope the StreumOn team does, too, though I don't know how much incentive they have to work on these things anymore.
It would be quite amazing if you could change the research system. Instead of a list, we would get a tree like this:

And then research one by one, knowing what will unlock after we researched something.
Also, is it possible for you to add energy weapons? laser and plasma based similar to what the Federation uses? a Weapon DLC would be very nice.
