whenever i'm in inventory the square outline appears in the middle of two slots. Meaning, the only slots I can pick up is the 1 slot, 3 slot, and 5 slot.

Your monitor is a bit small. Laptop I assume?
I have yet found an easy way to get the inventory to scale.
I'll try and fix this. Thank you for commenting!

Perhaps you could allow the mouse to crtl click to grab the menu and drag it along to see the rest of it. Then you wouldn't have to scale at all.

That's a good idea! I've never thought of that. It wouldn't be as hard as scaling.

So i figured i would give the game a shot, after 2 minutes playing i realized the menu in a little bit off, so i cant craft anything that i know, and you should be looking foward to some more original recipes for things, i mean, the crafting of picks are the same as minecraft, You could take some ideas from the mods, what about this : YOu look for Steel or iron or whatever and make an anvil, in the anvil you must create the parts of the tools, the stick and the head for the pickaxe. Then you put them in the Crafting bench in some form like this

x-P-x
x-S-x
x-S-x

P : Pickaxe's head
S : Stick
X : Nothing

Then you could go to the anvil and reinforce the pickaxe with some more Iron or steel, or maybe you could reinforce the iron pick with some other mineral like gold, just to make it a little bit better but not as good as a gold pickaxe for example.

Don't worry about the menu. It's already been fixed and heavily optimized for the next update. Setting your resolution to 1600x900 will definitely fix it though. As for original recipes, I have no choice for tools. Slanting it would take from Junk Jack. Might as well go with something familiar. The game almost has more items than MC does in the next update, so stay tuned.

I believe this game has a lot of potential, but very similar to minecraft. i think you should try to make it more high tech or something. also it would be cool to have mobs like eagles or bears.
a lot of people are complaining about the size of the blocks, but i see the problem differently, i think you should just make the character sprite larger rather than changing the whole world template because it is a different size. another problem is on a small screen your inventory is messed up, i know it was mentioned earlier, but i believe if you dont fix it soon people will lose interest in your game. so that is a main priority for the success of explorium. please take my comment into consideration and i hope this game will be super successful!

I have completely fixed the inventory problem and added the ability to drag it around for the next update. To temporarily fix it, you could change your screen resolution.

another thing:for the deserts, could they be a little more natural because right now they are just a rectangle of straight sand. it would look cool if it fused into the forest underground, like the blocks kind of mix together? that would look awesome! but seriously, this game is awesome.

in the lng run could there be a day and night cycle? i know its a lot to ask with all this, but it will be in your benefit!

Yeah. Lighting is a very large problem. The game already sucks in RAM. I think having another array of data would increase the amount of RAM used drastically. It also slows down update speed. The only way around this I see is to re-write the data code into another much more effecient data type that uses tons less RAM and is much faster. That would take like a month. Lighting is not on my agenda.

I like it, there is just a bug I would like to address.The bug is that doors, even when opened, are unable to be passed. Also could you add ladders to the game too? Thanks.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

Technically, that's not a bug. I didn't have time to actually put in a system for a lot of differing collisions. It's on my list, though. Ladders will be added.

I played Explorium for a good 30-45min or so, and I've compiled a short list of some feedback for you.
Take it as you wish.

* No Mouse Control in Main Menu
* No Options Menu in Main Menu
* No Rebindable keys.
* No Video Options.
* View clipping. Some parts of the map will not be rendered if moving too quickly.
* Press Enter to craft - Annoying as hell. Mouse control please.
* Static Crafting recipes. i.e. Logs only being able to be in centre cell if crafting planks.
* Way too large blocks.
* Inventory resets your item selected in the actionbar.
* Only scrolling can select items on the actionbar, no 1-9 selection.
* Scrolling inverted when selecting items in your actionbar.
* Foreground/Background placing blocks is annoying.
* UI Scale is incorrect.
* Possible to dig a block that is behind another block.
* Background colour underground is an annoying bright teal.
* Digging one block until last Animation frame and moving mouse cursor to another block destroys it
* Pickaxe Scaling is illogical, pre-iron/silver it's really slow, Silver+ is insanely quick.
* Destroyed a Chest, Items flew straight up through the map.
* Can't drop items from inventory.
* Placing a block on yourself whilst in a 1 block sized room will cause you to magically teleport to the next available empty block above you.
* Graphics look like they were drawn by 10 different people, no style is followed at all.
* Fell out of the bottom of the map and crashed the game
In script scrPlayerStep:
Error in code at line 8:
player_blockdown = map[player_x/size,((player_y-16)/size)+1]
^
at position 19: Unknown variable map or array index out of bounds

Oh my god thank you! These are very helpful. Keep in mind this is only the second version of the game and it will be regularly updated.

1. "View clipping." That's the only side effect of slower updating. You see, if I sped up updating back to every step (1 60th of a second) the game would lag crazily. The only way would be increasing the blocks updated outside of the view, which I have already done. It causes major glitches, so it's better to stick this method.

2. "Way too large blocks." Once I figure out a more variable way to handle collisions, I will be adding a lot of different ways to make building better and more unique.

3. "Static crafting recipes." Allowing for shapeless recipes is on my list of things I need to figure out how to do. It will be a future addition.

4. "Foreground/Background placing blocks is annoying." If I allow for manually switching layer, some mechanics could be messed up. I will try and work on that, though.

5. "UI Scale is incorrect." In the next update, all inventory annoyances will be dealt with.

6. "Possible to dig a block that is behind another block." I've never had that happen. I'll look into it.

7. "Background colour underground is an annoying bright teal." Really? It's supposed to be black. It might be a problem with the game forcing graphics inot 32-bit.

8. "Digging one block until last Animation frame and moving mouse cursor to another block destroys it" Also on my list.

9. "Items flew straight up through the map." Damn it. I thought I fixed that.

10. "Can't drop items from inventory." Since dropped items have no extra data, any dropped tools would fix themselves. I will eventually give them a data value, though.

11. "Placing a block on yourself whilst in a 1 block sized room will cause you to magically teleport to the next available empty block above you." Yeah... This will be fixed. Sorry.

12. "Graphics look like they were drawn by 10 different people, no style is followed at all." Is this a problem to you? I'm sorry about the graphics. I'm not a very good spriter.

13. "Fell out of the bottom of the map and crashed the game" So you got a mining laser, did you? I honestly never expected anybody to actually get there. Will be fixed.

I played this game for a while and I have some suggestions.

First of all it would be nice if you added some more saving slots. I accidentally pressed the "New Game" button instead of "Load Game" and my previous save was deleted. Maybe a warning message or something like that when pressing "New Game" button would be nice.

Second thing that should be fixed, is when you open up your inventory and close it down, the hot-bar slot immediately selects the first thing on it. The slot, that you had selected before opening the inventory should be the same when you close it. And the slot selection border should have a different color, so that it would be easier to see what slot you have selected.

Another useful feature would be Shift-clicking (like in Minecraft).

And as Joxno already mentioned, the scrolling is inverted and should be fixed.

Despite these minor problems, this game got me interested. I am looking forward too see what you can come up with. Keep up the good work.

I probably will add more saving slots. In the next update, your hot slot position will be saved, as I have already done that. I will try to make the currently selected item easier to see.

Keep looking in the images section as I will post a new photo almost every day.

When you press W twice (and hold), your character will get stuck in the walking animation (arms and legs outstretched) and you can slide along the ground at a faster speed (it seems) than if you were just walking.

Good suggestion, but I do not have the sufficient programming knowledge to do so. When I figure out how to allow for multiplayer, I will re-create the game and make it payed for.

Multiplayer in any form is not on my list of things to do and it most likely will never be. Sorry.

I don't know, but nobody likes to hear that so I'll say sometime next month.

Being one person with limited programming knowledge, the updates may take a while.

Believe me, the wait is going to be worth it. Keep checking for new image posts here, though.

i cant wait for the next update! this game is really cool. will there be a new ancient technology? oh, and the ancient technologys are easy to find. i have 2 mining lasers and three teleporters. but holy crap! mobs! that is a huge step for a game. as soon as mobs are added in, the game is that much better. so congrats and happy exploring!

Yes, I've implemented a fully functional health bar and fall damage. Some mobs damage you as well. As of right now, there are only three different mobs because they have a lot of different properties, more will be added.

hey, zartax here. i have a few things to say about this game in the 5 minutes that ive played it. amazing, as you, an indie developer, should recieve all the input there is so you are inspired to make a fantstic game. and for alpha 0.2, this game is pretty damn good. Just because Mojang made thier own sandbox survial and re-logic made terraria dosnt meen other people cant be inspired and make there own. personaly, i like seeing what people can come up with. you take the cake :). ive played junk jack, junk jack x, terraria, starbound,deepworld,edge of space,windforge,minecraft,7 days to die, and many other survival sanbox game. and i cant wait to see what this becomes!(p.s i cant find out how to craft anything, craft book maybe?)
