I just added the new farming system. You have to first find the seeds randomly in the wilderness. After that, you simply have to pick them up and plant them using a hoe. It takes a randomized amount of time for them to grow, but they'll only sprout if you're there with them. The amount of seeds and wheat you get from each harvest is dependent upon your farming level.
Expect lots more crops in the future!
