This is our first post on IndieDB and today we would like to talk about what 'Double Barrelled : Blake Killem vs Mars' is all about. Read on to find out how we plan to make Blake the next action hero. We got some pictures too :)

Welcome...

Guys, gals (...and fellow Pantless Landsharks) welcome to our first progress update on the uphill battles, downhill struggles and other such joys of creating the world of Double Barrelled and all the sick and twisted *beep* in it.

This is our first post here on IndieDB and of course we want to make a good impression. If for any reason you are not impressed after reading this here impressive post then you are, as they say, heatoutofluck!

Anyway...

Double Barrelled is an Action Role Playing Game or ARPG for short. It's like Diablo but with laser guns and space goblins. On a much smaller scale, without multiplayer (for now) and with lots of crude and sometimes inappropriate humor.

In short

Players will assume the role of Blake Killem, an ex Space Marine who works as a security guard for TerraGigaMega Corp. on one of their Solberium mining colonies. The only reason Blake took this dead end job was because the corporation has a tendency to hire female Science Officers with bosoms large enough to serve as life rafts.
Naturally (no pun intended) our hero got peeved, somewhat, when aliens landed in his backyard and took all those Science Babes...er Officers into their Mothership.

Now Blake must battle his way across treacherous martian terrain, through hordes of infected quarry workers, mutants, zombies, robots and gazillions of other outer space rejects in order to free all those females.

In long

Our goal is to turn Double Barrelled into an epic adventure of interplanetary proportions!

To help Blake kick aliens right in the glands with some style we will give him tons and tons of epic loot. Helmets, EVA suits, boots, backpacks, belts, purses, very supportive bikini panties that don't bite, shades, personal shield generators, shotguns, railguns, wormhole grenades, guns that go pew pew pew, jetpacks, metric crap tons of ammo in all shapes and sizes, weapon mods and so much more! There are even Biological Matter Reconstitution Pods (these are just glorified checkpoints really).

All this sounds familiar...

Wasn't there a guy named Duke something or other?

We can hear you say...really out loud. Well yeah but Blake is the OTHER king of cheesy one-liners and the fact that this game stinks of Diablo is also totally coincidental. In fact everything here is original and we never played all the games you think we are ripping off so it doesn't count!

Now that the legal stuff is out of the way we can breath a little easier and be honest for a bit. Yes, we looked at a lot of games from the golden era of PC gaming for inspiration and we hope that DB is fraction as addictive and fun as those games were.

You said 'we got pictures' man...

Well the pictures aren't that great. But we did promise so here, feast your eyes on these :

Science Babe Zombie Babe Sarge

There are a lot more in the Images section so feel free to head over there later and check them out.

Features!?

Features are still very raw and under heavy development. We did get a few of the major systems in though.

For example the inventory is working and although it is still far from finished it feels pretty cool. It resembles the Diablo I inventory a bit both in functionality and even bugs. Here is a screenshot from a while back

Inventory Screen [Prototype]

There have been a lot of improvements of the UI and whatnot but that is something we wanted to talk about in greater detail in one of the upcoming posts.

The tooltips system, together with some other UI goodness, has been implemented too. Although the screens are a little dated you can see the general idea behind how they work. Not breaking any new ground here but at least it's not worse than what some other kids have done.

Tooltips [Prototype]

Besides those features we've also implemented things like :

  • Playable and Non-Playable Characters
  • Enemies & Basic AI
  • Player Controls
  • Player Levels, Statis, Perks etc.
  • Camera functionality
  • Minimap
  • Objectives & Basic Quests
  • Weapons, Ammo, Mods, Armor

Again, we will cover all of these in detail soon.

Next up...

In the next update we will try to give you a little more insight into some of the new system we are currently working on and hopefully we will have enough time to put a little video together.

In the mean time keep an eye on the images section, we will be updating it regularly with all kinds of awesome stuff.
We thank you all for your interest in Double Barrelled. If you have ideas, criticism (constructive or otherwise) or anything you would like to share, please leave a comment below.

We will be back shortly...Stay tuned!
