Secret agent Dirk Dashing is back for a brand new mission! After a wicked computer virus destroys G.O.O.D's new computer network, agent Dirk Dashing must track down the cyber criminal responsible for the attack. His mission leads him to a massive global corporation, owned by one of the wealthiest men in the world. Help Dirk avoid security systems, evade guards, and solve all-new puzzles to stop a diabolical new plot by E.V.I.L mastermind, Dr. Ego! Dirk Dashing 2 features 40 huge levels to explore, new stealth tactics, new moves, multiple ways to defeat enemies (shoot them, gas them, jump on them, drop stuff on them, or trick them into running off ledges, into walls, or into each other), hand-painted scenery, hand-drawn cartoon animation, and more!
Dirk Dashing is a cute platformer with funny story. The game is made to be accessible to kids which is one of the reasons I let mine play it. The graphics and sounds are 'cute' and the choice of weapons are knockout gas grenades and tranquilizer darts. It plays up the campy secret agent style in a way that very funny. (Note Dirk's authentication code when he calls HQ.)
The game play is very much like any platformer. You can play just to get through a level, but there are bonuses for not taking any damage, for being stealthy, for fining every item on a level (and some things are well hidden) as well as hard to find extra levels that I think can help you get a better ending. Don't let the cute looks fool you. It is a serious platformer.
The only problem I had with the game is that the keyboard controls are not as nice/responsive as I've seen in other games. Just a number of little things, like if you want to jump to the left off a latter, you have to jump first and then press left otherwise the left doesn't register and you just jump straight up. I don't have a game controller, so I don't know if it has similar problems or not.
I love this game from the first sight. It reminds me a lot of the games that I played when I was a teenager.
If you like classic DOS shareware platformers, you'll feel right at home with this one. The lovely hand-drawn graphics and cartoony action are just the icing on the cake!
Every aspect of this game seems crafted with care and attention to detail.
Very good graphics, entertaining and interesting levels and missions, lots of variety, classic gaming at its best.
90s graphics, stiff anims, but fun and addicting
