New in Version 0.07
We decided to move away from the random locations and give you a map selection screen. This made much more sense in the overall flow of the game because wouldn't be finding yourself at a random location. We assume that if your party wandered into a labyrinth, you would know what you were getting in to and come prepared.
Above is the Holodark Keep Map. Each of the nodes represents one of the 12 locations surrounding Holodark. All locations have varying challenges that you will have to face. In order to save Holodark Keep, you will need to defeat the five Chaos Beasts. The five will not always stay in the same location and will not be easy to find. Sometimes, a location will be too challenging and you will need to explore easier sections to better equip yourself. Now with selecting your map location, it became much easier to find suitable opponents for leveling up.
When you hover your mouse over each node (or tap it once on mobile), the information about the map location will appear. Here is a quick break down of what you see:
1. Name of the location. This is the location card that will be drawn at the beginning of combat.
2. CC - challenge cards. This represents the number of challenge cards that will be drawn at the start of combat (not implemented yet). Challenge cards will be beneficial or hindering effects that are randomly applied to each fight.
3. CR - combat rating. This shows the difference in the level of monsters compared to the level of your heroes (not implemented yet).
4. E - element. The element refers to what energy emanates from the location. This is applied to the element location modifiers (i.e. the +1 bonus that you can obtain).
Just for testing the system, the level of your heroes was defaulted to 0. Since you will be easily able to enter anything equal to or below your level, the Abandoned Village shows up as green. More challenging adventures are 1 or 2 levels higher than you. The Unhallowed Graveyard, Desecrated Altar, Abandoned Guildhall, and Cramped Tunnels all fall into that category. Since they are within 2 levels, they show up as gold nodes. Locations with combat ratings more than 2 above your level show up as gray. You can still view their information, but cannot enter the location.
Our best advice for testing out the game is to select a bunch of Wood elemental attacks and enter the Abandoned Guildhall. This will capitalize both on the Rogue's ability to wield the Wood element and the location bonus from the Guild having Wood energy.
