Cvltivation is a first-person experience in which one assumes the role of a self-configuring organism designed by a strange techno-cult. Aberrational meldings of flesh and machine roam the corridors of a surreal citadel rising from the decay of a dead planet, and it is with these beings that the organism must contend, and upon them it must feed, if it would ever know the truth of its imposed existence.
I was playing Alien: Isolation- well, studying it really- and was struck by the fact that there are an enormous number of lights in any given scene, and yet the game is still terrifyingly dark in its aesthetics. As such, I started experimenting with ambient lighting and discovered that baking in dozens of short-range lights provides a huge boost to the visual fidelity of a game while costing next to nothing in terms of performance.
