Crypt of the NecroDancer, the rhythm-based roguelike dungeon crawler with a kickass soundtrack, now features modding support powered by mod.io. Read on to learn more about Crypt of the NecroDancer and how mod.io will support a new set of community creators!

Crypt of the NecroDancer is an iconic and well-regarded indie released back in 2015 that has remained relevant thanks to consistent support from developers and a remarkable premise that helps it stand out in the indie sphere. The goal is to stay in rhythm as you beat back enemies of all shapes and sizes, with powerful bonuses for playing to the game's tune - bonuses you'll want to reap given the roguelike formula also gives it a brutal level of challenge.

Roguelikes are all about player mastery - dependent on playing the same levels, fighting the same enemies, and utilising the same mechanics over and over again to build your capabilities. NecroDancer also features permanent upgrade mechanics meaning no run ever really goes to waste, but the emphasis is always on player skill as the deciding factor for progressing further and further each time.

Roguelike games can be extended in life-cycle by developer support, content addons, and more of that kind of thing - but arguably the most efficient way for an indie developer to enhance the span of their title is to add modding support, and Crypt of the NecroDancer has done just that, powered by mod.io!

Modding support is achieved via LUA scripting - a pretty accessible scripting language - and is expansive enough to cover everything from level generation, to weapon functionality, to enemy behaviour. A rare sight for mods in any game is the fact all of this can be activated and deactivated in real time, not only allowing players to quickly identify what mods they want to play with or would rather avoid, but also allowing mod creators to iterate on their work efficiently. Over seventy mods are already downloadable on mod.io covering new characters, terrain, and more.

Enemy variety is abound in NecroDancer, and mods are poised to enhance it even further

The game is available on Steam for £10.99 GBP/$14.99 USD, and the SYNCHRONY DLC - which launched recently alongside the modding support - is available for another £5.19 GBP/$6.99 USD, acting as one of the largest content drops for the game so far. It's not the only piece of extended content for the game, with a full collection of the game and all DLCs totalling to £46.05 GBP/$62.58 USD, if you really fall in love with the game - and with mods now available, that value will only increase over time.
