You wake up in a dark alley, not knowing anything. What has happened anyway? You struggle after the truth and answers. Answers you want to know in the darkness and fear, which makes your heartbeat race like violent blows against your head. Where do "they" come from? What has happened? Are you just turning insane? The time is up; you can't stay there reading your smses forever. It's time to head out and find the answers. Cry of Fear is a singleplayer modification of Half-Life 1 which brings you the horror you've always been afraid of. It's a total conversion of Half-Life 1, which means it uses NO Half-Life 1 content or other peoples' files. It's all made exclusively by the developers. It also uses new gaming styles that you will rarely find in Half-Life mods, such as advanced cutscenes and other stuff that will be revealed at a later date.

"There are people who can't play horror games, but you need to suck it up just so you can play this game. That's how great it is. You need to get over it and just **** your pants."
Ok, if you weren't already sold on this mod, that quote should be all that you need. This mod is going to be amazing.

Well, I usually play horror games for the sole purpose of scaring the **** out of myself.. And when **** hits the fan and I find myself in the main menu about to quit.. I just remind myself of that... It usually works. :D

I don't know about the resident evil style room transitions guys. Recent horror games (including resident evil and silent hill), worked to make everything real-time so the player can be as immersed as possible, so this seems more like an un-evolution of the formula to me.

These Resident Evil style doors would give the player the thought of a tiny break while the door opens, but all the while giving them the thoughts of "..what if something is waiting on the other side?" therefore scaring the person before they even get into the next room.

If they kept it to the classic Half-life method of running into doors then the player can see something before the door fully opens and run back which means the fear of being trapped in a room isn't there.

I can still turn around and go back to the previous room and be relieved knowing that the enemy in the other room will never be able to come trough the door.

Yeah I'll agree with you there...

However in the case of Resident Evil Remake where they decided to do exactly that. I always try to stay as far away from doors that zombies are banging on because of the risk of them actually getting through and grabbing you, god when that happened the first time I'm glad I had an escape item...

Recent horror games are also known to be rather ****.

I have to disagree. Makers of Silent Hill Shattered Memories made a deliberate decision to remove the room-transition loading and it's worked to their advantage rather well.

When I was 14-15 years old, I fell from the chair when I was playing RE1 on my PC. After reading a book that was upon a table, a zombie got out of a closet that was just behind me at the same time that a shouting out loud music played. It was like, I was very vulnerable because it was a very small room with no zombie and the music was very relaxing and sundenly the MF comes out. That was the ******* scariest video game moment in my life. Impressively, I have a feeling that when I'll play this game, the "falling of a chair" moment will be replaced by a "I need a pacemaker" moment. I can't ******* WAIT!!!

Silent hill series have everything except gameplay as good as many people claim. SH is not survival horror.

SH2 you never feel pressured by monsters except pyramid head, no monsterruns at all, plus you can mow down everything even with a handgun and lets not mention the bottomless inventory.

I agree that SH games are great for the atmosphery and imagery, but the gameplay it by no means something other games should imitate.
And shatterred memories was certainly a a good change, not as well performed as expected but certainly better than the dope gameplay of the first ones (specially the removal of guns)

Because the main character looks like harry potter, the whole city is gayed with ICE instead of blood and rust, which is ****. And then, you can use modern stuff like iphone and ****, which is just gay. And I really don't like games with only melee. They have just ruined SH1, which is a damn good game.

I havent played SH: SM, but I do agree with your point. Silent Hill 2 was the best SH of all time, 1 was amazing already of course, and 3.. well it was not as good as 1 and 2 but still pretty disturbing. but from that on..

I just miss the old elements.

SH1: Amazing, disturbing, confusing, masterpiece
SH2: Amating, disturbing and scary, awesome story, masterpiece
SH3: Disturbing, nice graphics, alot of creepy moments, Acceptable
SH4: Ok, Kind of unfitting new elements, not the old SH feeling, ok..
SH5: no real SH anymore... doesnt count

SH 5 had way to much action, a obvious story, no scary moments and riddels, just not the same...
It had nice graphics but thats it. The doll level was the only real disturbing area.

I miss good old times like SH 2, that game is my favorite of all time.
