The USSFC is losing hope and losing the war, but the poorly equipped Legion are losing soldiers fast. This is the desperate last struggle of two clashing armies... This is Crimson Crow.

Two weeks without an update? Well we have one now!

Posted by on

Unfortunately with a million things going on, it seems managing an update can be a little daunting.
With the announcing of the engine switch, I personally got some very strong e-mails with some straight-forward opinions on why we shouldn't use T3D.

I heavily reconsidered the engine jump and we finally decided against it. Not only would the jump make Crimson Crow much harder to run, but seemed overall like a bad idea.

With that, we felt more opinions should be heard. Just so that we know what is expected of us and what people want. You can reply as a comment or message me personally.

The questions being:

-What do you think of Crimson Crow?
-What do you expect when the first release hits?
-Is there something you really wish we talked about/added more?
-Whats your favorite/least favorite about our development so far?
-What would you change?

We thank anyone who answers these, feel free to be as critical (and constructive) as you want.

Fortunately we do have some media to go along with this. Below is a new concept of one of the characters (top left), aiming a stockless rifle (top right), the new RG50 (lower left), and the RG50 in-game (lower right).

"-What do you think of Crimson Crow?"

It looks like a good game, that should be fun after it is released. Plus, the fact it uses an older engine is good since I should be able to run it with no lag.

"-What do you expect when the first release hits?"

A horribly bugged, unbalanced, piece of ****. But future updates will turn it into gold.

-Is there something you really wish we talked about/added more?

A beta test.

-Whats your favorite/least favorite about our development so far?

My least favorite is when I believe you said that you would not have a custom attachment system. My favorite is having zombies.

-What would you change?

Add an attachment system where each has positives and negatives and you can put on as many as fit. Also a bullet type system.

I've gotten a few replies about having an early, if even bugged, pre-release to get some major feedback. This makes this all the more tempting.

I also got a few comments about the weapon attachment system. Since the original plan wasn't highly remarked, I'm trying out a custom attachment idea, and I'll work on the infested more.

Thanks for the quick reply!

1. A very intriguing concept, sounds interesting and that it could be good, though it's changed many times over the course of me following it.

2. Pretty much what the above said. Something really buggy and unbalanced, but with feedback, updates, and refinement, a piece of gold.

3. Backgrounds of the world, lore. Maybe some technical stuff like how you go about programming gameplay and things. The game itself keeps changing a lot, personally I'm not exactly what the end-goal is.

4. That you keep going, no matter what. The randomized weaponry sounded interesting.

5. Can't think of anything I'd change at the moment.

I like the randomized weaponry idea but the customized weaponry also sounds good. I feel I should somehow incorporate both.

I've been a follower of CC for awhile, so I'll do my best to answer these questions.

1. I think that it has great potential, and once the gameplay is tweaked to a unique game-style it'll be wonderful.

2. I expect the same that everyone else has, but just like them I'm willing to see it through for a better eventual release.

3. Since so much keeps changing, I'd like to have a good explanation of exactly what the planned game modes are going to be.

4. I really like how you guys keep going, and you're involvement in the community.

5. I'm not too sure. If you post similar questions later in development, I'll definitely have an answer to this one I'm sure!

I think most of your questions burn down to one answer: pre-release!

Even after all those years of watching it, I'm not entirely sure what Crimson Crow is about, or how exactly it will be played. Either feed us relevant information from the development doc, or (better!) release a prototype map, with just some key functions of the game working in it.

The release of a prototype will put you under the pressure of being watched (even scrutinized) by gamers. I'm sure there will be some unneccessary comments by people, who don't understand the purpose of alpha releases. On the long run you'll ensure quality control and keep the community alive. After all the feedback CC gets already that should encourage you to make a more public approach.

I second the prototype / demo idea. Building a verical slice of the game always has a good effect on the team. It's a way to point out that "here, we can do this!" :)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you guys.

Right now a release would do us much good since we've spent much too long without any. I believe your right, and if the public knows what we have, we can focus on any glaringly obvious issues that were probably missed before.

A pre demo would be a great idea and am sure would help get more people giving you there input and ideas
i love the look and theme of this game and am sure that a demo , how ever basic would be a great idea

-What do you think of Crimson Crow?
i like the universe, post apo, horror

-What do you expect when the first release hits?
the animation

-Is there something you really wish we talked about/added more?
human against the bots (for more coop) and new mod: human, against only mutant (not 2 teams and mutant)

-Whats your favorite/least favorite about our development so far?

maybe the drawing, it is a little "young"

-What would you change?

Unfortunately animations are our weak point, but we're trying.

Game-modes have been a funny issue, because we do have an idea rolling but we've had a lot of people wanting to play as the infested.

The drawing is a little 'young', well because if it's mine then its very 'amateur'. Our actual concept artist usually sketches his pictures out in a few minutes. They were never really intended for 'showpieces'.

Thanks for the feedback and support.

What about an invite-only alpha? That will help avoid mass "THIS SUX!!!11!1!!" spam from people who don't understand what an alpha is, while allowing for fresh opinions to be fed into the dev process. Yay/Nay?

I think your absolutely right. That would be the best way to handle things when it comes to a first release.

Honestly there isn't alot I can say is bad here I expect Crimson Crow from the first release: a new indie fps that will add something new and different. My favorite thing about developement is the amount of progress you guys have! This game looks excellent and I couldn't hope for more or less
