Coral is a Halo Fan Game that brings classic Halo gameplay to PC. It will include an all-new Campaign experience about an outer colony planet called Coral and the Spartan-3 fire-team you play as, the Firefight mode will be reminiscent of Halo 3 ODST and Halo: Reach’s firefight mode, and Flood, which is a firefight and Call of Duty Zombies inspired endless horde mode.
Hello! Welcome everybody who are new and returning, I am JeBobs, the leader of Coral: A Halo Fan Game. I just want to update everybody on what has been going on these past few months, as things have looked dead or have changed somewhat.
First off, before anything else, I have updated the job ads to reflect our current positions, so feel free to hop over to the jobs tab after reading if you are interested in joining the team. Most every skill is needed and would be greatly appreciated.
So, I have gotten this question more than any other, and for a good reason. "Is Coral in Unreal or Unity? Some places show screenshots and assets inside Unreal and some inside Unity. What's up?" To answer this, at the end of this past July, we decided to make the switch from Unreal Engine to Unity, and for a reason. We simply were not getting enough developers that were experienced in Unreal Engine, and the few people that were could not work on Coral enough to make significant progress. The only people that seemed to know the engine were artists, and the only programmers that even applied expected some sort of pay (which we are legally not allowed to do).
Usually, when I tell people this, they start to freak out and assume that we will just become the "stereotypical indie Unity game" which usually turns out to be an asset flip. I assure you all that Coral's assets and code are all original and will continue to be. Believe it or not, we have gotten a lot more things done inside the month and a half of Unity than we did in three months of Unreal.
So what is next for Coral? Well, while the Unity project is not quite at the stage that we can show a lot of gameplay yet, our assets are turning out better than ever, and stay tuned here to see more. Also, I usually try to keep things updated inside of our public Discord server (invite link below), while answering as many questions there as well.
Meanwhile, feel free to spread the word about Coral, as we are always looking for more developers to help out and get this game released to you all. This is JeBobs, and I will speak to you all again. Thanks!
