Conquest of Elysium 3 is an old school fantasy strategy game. You explore your surroundings conquer locations that provides the resources you need. Resources needed vary much depending on what character you are, e.g. the high priestess need places where she can gather human sacrifices, the baron needs places where tax can be collected and where iron can be mined. These resources can then be used for magic rituals and troop recruitments. The main differentiator for this game is the amount of features and special abilities that can be used. The game can be played on Windows, Linux (x86 and raspberry pi) and Mac OSX (intel and powerpc).

These two little mods actually deserve their own thread.

The first changes the movement patterns of non-carnivore animals, so they will usually stay in an appropriate terrain -> you will rarely attacked by deers.
The latter lets humanoid monsters stay in a money-generating terrain (pop-centre or mine for example) after capturing them (-> you won't have to hunt stealthed Brigands again and again).

IMPORTANT: It appears there was an error in the Humans Stay In Income Sites Mod, and I forgot to upload the fix. So if you have downloaded it before, download it again ;).

Also note that this mod does affect balance, because forest-centered classes (Witch, Druid, TK, Barbarian) have to fight more animals.

edit: Is there no way to edit the headline?

Links are dead.

Hmm I will try and dig those up.
Much of it or something like it is available on the forum at www.CoE-3.com or from the coe-3 fansite at Filebox.vt.edu

I would advise that all modders, mappers, and programmers use a forum such as mine for hosting their works. Cloud file services or places like this forum on Desura are ok for most games but arent good for items we will want for years and years.

Yeah, unfortunately my links just come right back to the forums, that way I don't have to keep them updated, but this is the flaw in that means of organizing content. I'll see if I can't get ulius to hand over the goods if I can get a hold of him :) seems he might not be as active on these forums as he once was

Please find them, these mods would in my mind really fix some of the problems with the game play, that I find really annoying.. and it seams that I'm not alone in this :P

did you check www.CoE-3.com ?
There are various versions at all levels.
Even including new ones to completely turn off the indepedents and play only with the players, or to play AS the Independents for a taste of revenge.

Even if found it will best be at some other site. Putting the files here appears temporary also

I did find your "Deer" mod, and it worked great! :)
It was also easy to alter your mod so it would work on more annoying animals and how you wanted it to react, so that good.
Many thanks

I was going to link to that mod, but sense I'm a new user, it was not allowed.. after all, I might be a spambot ^^
But I think that is kinda good, less spam, hopfully :)

I forgot I had that Deer one there. I dont use it.
I think I did it just as proof-of-concept and meant for others to expand on it. Which they did do.
Glad you found it handy. Even gladder you could expand it to your needs.

I am playing with mods now. 3 very large ones which throw interesting sites onto random maps, and new wandering groups (which sometimes join you as mercenaries), and many new worldwide events in the style of Dominions 3 (frankly many are stolen verbatim from Dom3). But each time I think it is close, Johan adds something. I am eagerly waiting for the next patch since the fixes listed have the potential to make a lot of really cool changes to what I have. OR generate a lot of new requests to Johan for more. (or both) :)

What do you usually play as? I have a theory that depending on what faction you play, makes you more or less likely to be annoyed of the wildlife that roam Elysium.
I mostly play Necromancer, and sense there undead troops don't heal between battles, like normal, they suffer if a lot of animals attack. I remember one time when one of my port was attacked, first by one Elephant, then 14 Deer's and finally 18 wolves (or spiders), during those three turns, my defenders where turned to dust.. looong before the reinforcement where able to reach the city :(

After the mod was installed, the aggressive behavior of the wildlife was reduced to my liking, now being more like normal animals, but then when I played with Troll King, I did almost not face any at all.. so either I was lucky this time and they were busy to mob and rob some other poor guy or it was easier because the troops were able to heal between battles... It might also be that I control the forests, and it then counts as a mine/town, so they don't go there so often, and because of it, it also seems like they don't spawn as often in my proximity, any thoughts on that?

Sounds like some interesting mods you are playing, care to give me a link to them? :)
I have not played Dominions 3, I recently fond CoE3 and I love it, so I might end up playing Dom3 as well, if I can find the time ^^

Dom3 is definitely a time eater. Larger, deeper, and the turns take much longer to do. But still a lot of fun.

I play everything (I kindof have to because Im a beta tester).
Ive done wildlife management as a job. I dont find the animals as unusual as people think. Google for them with the word "attacks". (Deer kill more people in the US than bear, wolf, cougar, gator, and shark combined).

As I understand it, certain wandering units have a preference for certain places, and some have a tendency to want to stay there after they find it. But the animals are just random. They wander in, if no one is guarding it then they do damage and wander out. The real key is to NOT charge out of your capital until you look at a few wandering units in your area. The different ages can make a big difference, and the randoms are pretty extreme so it might be "little groups" or it might be "big raging groups".

You can try this mod which will give each capital an immobile Guardian statue
