A small sandbox city, vehicles to take and missions to do driving and/or on foot. This is a project made by one person mainly as a learning experience, with the main goal of at least creating a 'proof of concept' demo. Programmed using DirectX 9.0c for the graphics, Bullet Physics as the physics engine and OpenAL for the sound.

I've been working on this project for some time now (you can watch some work in progress videos here) and I've decided it's time to achieve the first goal I set at the beginning: creating a working 'proof of concept' demo.

The plan is having a working demo this week, so I decided it was a good time to create an indieDB's page for the game, now that I'm reaching a milestone. I'll try to update it with new screenshots and videos of the demo, and probably upload it when it's ready so people can check it.

I didn't get the info on your blog, do you do this on your own ? If so, congratulations, the result is already quite nice.
About visual style, it's a bit in between realistic and cartoon ? Is this final artistic direction ?
Anyway, good luck !

Yes, it's a one man project. Some of the models are bought or found for free, but I try to do as much as I can myself. Having an art style between realistic and cartoonish helps me hide the limitations of what I'm able to do graphically with the code I've implemented so far :) and I think looks interesting.

Nice work!
I kinda like the Art-Style. the gme looks similar to the GTA Series, but the Artstyle is a little bit different. I like this "fresh" and colorfull look. It gives you an impression of a beautiful Paradise. I would love to explore such a place. :3

Right now it's not too much fun to explore (not many things to do and clunky controls :D), but I'll probably release the 'proof of concept' demo anyway, I'm trying to put it together these days, in case someone wants to check it out.

It's normal to have "limitations" in game developement. Especially as an indie Developer. I know it from myself. (i work with GM. not the fastest Game Engine on the market.^^')
So because Indie Devs haven't the ressources of an triple-A Studio, they must work with several limitations.

But that's the Art behind this whole process.
To create a beatifull and enjoyable World, even if there are limits. And as far as i see, you have done a pretty good job. :)

Of course, the world should be filled with a lot of interesting things. Every detail counts. A villa there, a Skyscraper there and maybe a destroyed bridge or hidden cave.
Exploring is always fun and such a game has great potential to create an interesting setting. A very detailed World with a lots of different Places and hidden "secrets" can be enjoyable even without "missions" which the player must accomplish.

But i belevie you will manage this. I wish you good luck. ;)

Thanks for your kind words. I completely agree, now I'm still figuring out the technical aspect of things, but in the future, I'm hoping I can make a city interesting even just to wander through (which is one of the things I most enjoy in this kind of games).
