Every 3,000 years the moon Ghar aligns with its mother planet, Uum, and a bridge is formed between the two entities. Refractors are the inhabitants of Ghar, and they have a faith built around this crossing and practice the ways of wielding, the technique of manipulating crystals with sheer will. A young wielder, Rowb, wakes to discover his home in ruins. His people have been reduced to ash. Left with nothing, his only choice is to make the pilgrimage to The Crossing in hopes of finding another rumored survivor.
