Cool. So, can you set your character to dual-wield katana, or are you only able to use a katana and wakizashi in tandem?
Oh, two other questions: One, will you be able to use weapons like kusarigama, zanbato and nodachi? And two, will you be able to have a female character?
Currently we don't have dual-wielding planned. We will have a huge selection of weapons (huge), but anime stuff like the zanbato won't make an appearance, we're going for a more authentic feel to the armory.
As for women on the battlefield, we want this to be a possibility, but it essentially doubles our workload on the character customization and animation. For now we're focusing on the male characters.
Fair enough. For the dual-wielding, I wanted to know because Miyamoto Musashi, one of the most famous swordsman of Japanese history, used a twin-sword style.
I was mainly interested in the kusarigama actually, as I can't imagine playing a ninja character without it. Zanbato was the wrong word for it, but there was some kind of anti-cavalry type sword used in Japan, at least if I remember correctly, and that was what I was referring to.
For the women, well, maybe it's something you could save for an expansion or update after the game is released. I just want to be able to create Yoshitsune Minamoto's full party, which included Tomoe Gozen.
I think even in Japan, females did not have a large role in warfare. They were still present, but it was rare to find a female samurai. Females, such as the wife of a samurai, were expected to defend the household in times of war, though. There was En.wikipedia.org though. Women were not prohibited from fighting, but nonetheless it wasn't common to find a female warrior.
Although, look at DayZ. There is the 'Female' option, but nobody picks it. Bushido will probably be much the same, if there's a female option. People may pick it, but it will probably be an uncommon occurance, in keeping with historical accuracy.
Not sure how you pull of the first person, since I think that 3rd is better suited for melee and customisation (you don't see your character in first person after all), but can be great if you do it right.
Here's a possible inspiration for you, if you don't know this game: Gamespot.com

Didn't Miyamoto Musashi invent the katana and wakizashi style?
