Building on 2nd place in the 32nd Ludum Dare and made with nostalgic 30 somethings in mind, Badass Inc. is a point and click action game that will take you back. You’re a contract killer; a sleek, stylish, feline predator that trades in scalps and briefcases full of cash. Your mission: eliminate a target for Ludum-Tek in an “unconventional way”.

Packing pixelart and a brooding soundtrack, Badass plunges you into a city wracked with desperation. Revel in the apathy of the protagonist as you work through situational puzzles, interspersed with cinematic action scenes and tense shootouts. It’s an in and out job, take out the target and get paid, right?

Badass Inc. is the culmination of a random idea for the 32nd Ludum Dare and a few weeks work here at Motion Twin.

Sebastien Benard, the lead developer of the project, has wanted to make a hommage to Flashback, Another World and their contemporaries for a while now. So when the last LD rolled around he thought, "why not prototype something now?" And he did.

In 48hrs Badass Inc. was born. You can play the original Ludum version here: Deepnight.net

Badass Inc Proto.

This was the original concept and Seb was pretty pleased with the result and the subsequent reaction on twitter and the rest of the internet. It was at this moment that he floated the idea of making a full blown game out of Badass. The team here at Motion Twin was very receptive to the idea. I'm pretty sure the reaction went something like "#%*$ YEAH!"

So we gave him a week and said make it sexy. And he did. Ther version you see in front of you is the result of a weeks work and a solid prototype. We've made a bit of noise on the net to test out the potential market for a game like this. Now we're pretty sure that we have to make the game.

Stay tuned for regular development updates. It's gonna be badass...

I loved this game when I first played it on game jolt a few months back and couldn't resist going back and playing it again. I'm sure it must be the love child of Blade Runner and Another World :D
I can't wait to see how it develops into a full game when you get it onto Steam Greenlight :)

Yeah we're not sure about a Kickstarter right at the moment. But we'll be putting it up on Greenlight as soon as we start development.

This game has huge, HUGE potential. I loved the demo, it ran well, and was entertaining. The music and the atmosphere fit perfectly, and the protagonist was amusing. The only downside I see to it right now is that you can't go fullscreen or adjust the resolution, which was kind of a pain, but not really. I'll be tracking this and spreading the word about this game, I really want to see this succeed because it looks like a good amount of fun and works really well with what it offers. Definitely worth a play.

Really happy to hear that! As far as the resolution goes, you'll be able to change the full version for sure. Although we'll probably try to keep a cinematic ratio (in keeping with the style).

I'll keep everyone here updated with milestones and such. Good to know that there's a community interested in this type of thing.

Cheers. :)

Is there anyone out there? I have the feeling that this is some kind of archive where games go to die...

Anyone?

Hey, we are here to help! We find that success rarely occurs instantly, slowly build followers 1 at a time via news posts and content. I will make sure we headline this game and your demo release on www.indiedb.com so you get coverage.

And as honeywave said, amazing art style. Oh and are you still working on: Dead-cells.com ? You should list it too

Thank you! I was stoked to see the Tweet yesterday and now the feature... Yeah boy!

As far as building a following goes I was interested to know what you guys could do in terms of organic traffic. I see the games in the top 100 with huge amounts of views etc... Anyway it's nice to have contact with you guys.

Thanks for the compliments on the art. Seb will be stoked. He's got some finishing touches to put on a f2p we're doing before he kicks into dev mode on Badass.

As for Dead Cells. Yeah we're still working on it, but we're not communicating about it yet. As soon as we are 100% on it we'll kick of an iDB page and get cracking on communication.

@honeywave I'm on top of the communication it's just that we also launched Rockfaller yesterday (rockfaller.com) and I've got waaay too much work to do. Hehe.

Anyway thanks for the contact and nice to meet you guys :D

We are here to help. In terms of organic traffic - we are a developer run site so it is up to you to take advantage of the exposure we can provide. We reach 250,000 people daily on ModDB + IndieDB and any news / demos / videos that you post which are high quality we shall help them out on the front page. It is worth putting in the few minutes of effort even if it may feel small.

So please just reach out if you need us to give Badass or Dead Cells or anything else a nudge. We are working to make our site a much more powerful vehicle of discovery for indie developers - and hope we can provide that one fan at a time.

Market. It helps. Send it to YouTubers, small ones will react better. One person looking is better than nobody looking. Send it to gaming news outlets. Basically, small ones are the best, it's more likely there will be less noise from tons of people sending them games.

You could also go to gaming forums. Here's one that I frequent quite often: Noobtoob.com

The community is tight-knit, since it's based on a podcast from a few years ago. But it's still going strong.

Amazing art style by the way.
