After a little behind-the-scenes chatter, it has decided that the full modification of Ashura: Dark Reign will be made on Unreal Tournament 2007 instead of Unreal Tournament 2004. But don't fear, UT2004 fans: We plan to release a multiplayer demo on UT2004 sometime between now and when we convert everything to UT2007.
Heres some of the reasons the move has been made.
1.) Single Player maps can stream together with very small loading times.
2.) High detail textures and models.
3.) Better physics using the Havok engine.
4.) Better texture and particle emitter effects.
5.) A much better body and facial rigging system.
6.) Its Next Gen Technology.
7.) Already UT Gamers have already begun the transition to the new engine before its even released by creating assets. (Static meshes, player Models, etc)
8.) Better Bot support and AI.
9.) UT2004 is hard to find for someone who wants to play it, where as UT2007 will be available in all videogame stores and easily accessible.
When ADR is finally released, I'm sure you will agree that the move was the best decision.
Well, aslong as I can get some new gear into my CP then I should be able to get 2k7, although I'm skint ATM, thank Jesus for Christmas.
As I have said ages ago, I'm loving this mod and I hope that what you can provide is what I will love from time to time, keep up the workz.
It kind of makes me angry when a mod decides it'll switch to a game that won't be out for like, 3+ months. And it'll be on an engine I will have no chance of running (vs. UT 2004, which runs decent).
Plus, switching engines like this means it'll add like... another year at least until there's an actual release for the mod, which - and no offense - really lowers the chance of this mod actually being released. You guys don't have forever to make this, you know. You're essentially asking for more work - and look at how often mods for Half-Life 2 get released; because maps, models, and coding take so much extra work - and have much higher standards than current mods.
I understand technology must progress, but I would've actually liked to play this.
I feel upset on how the mod has converted to 2k7, I must get it now however it might be difficult to wait.
Will all the models still be available for 2k4?
Yeah. With all due respect, you guys could've finished the game on UT2k4 and then gone over to UT2k7 to remake it. At least then, you would have had a finished product, and you won't have to worry about dying like so many have done in the past when they've switched engines in the middle of development.
But if you guys feel it's for the best, who am I to complain?
i hate when this happens. i hated when First Strike, the star wars mod, moved from bf2 onto bf2142. i was ******.
Like I said the mod wil still be comming out for UT2004.
And as you know we've only been working on the Multiplayer side of the mod.
