History

WINTER NIGHT GAMES was borne from the collective imagination of two dorky brothers. A lifelong interest in video games, pen & paper role playing games and horror stories compelled us to start our own company, where we make the kind of games we like to play and telling the stories we like to tell. WNG came out of what started as a collaborative effort to write a horror novella. While iterating and fleshing out the structure of the story, it became apparent this story would lend itself to being told within the medium of an adventure game. A larger framework was then conceived, which could support an overarching story that could be told through various gaming media, both digital and analog.

JOSH QUARLES, like many of his generation, was into gaming the moment he set his eyes on a friend's Atari 2600. Every quarter was saved for the local arcade and every excuse was made to spend time at the neighbor's house, racking up hours on Defender, Donkey Kong and Pac-Man. But the catalyst that truly cemented gaming as an ever-present element in his life was seeing a Dungeons & Dragons supplement at a local hobby store at the age of seven. From that point on, thousands of hours were spent at the kitchen table, rolling dice, graphing maps and writing scenarios. These practices continue to this day, in addition to far too many hours with a controller or keyboard in hand, whittling away at a single-player RPG of one sort or another. A career in graphic design combined with a brother's experience in crafting premium quality video games have led to the creation of Winter Night Games.

ZACHARY QUARLES was the kid that never talked about cars or sports in high school. Overclocking his Pentium processor, playing classic Sierra On-Line and Lucasarts point & click adventure games, working on mods for DOOM and QUAKE, playing pen & paper games with his brother, and writing music were his passions. Technology and gaming were always a part of his life. In fact, he learned how to type while solving King Graham's ever-mounting struggles in King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne. Basically, he was super cool. In 2000, an opportunity presented itself to work in the industry that he loves. He has had the privilege of working with companies such as Raven Software, Day 1 Studios (Now Wargaming.net), id Software, and is currently working at Microsoft within the XBox division...and loving every minute of it.
