- prologue -The sudden disappearance of the giant space hulk known as the Harbinger of Despair came as a total shock to the emperors’ cabinet. How could it without warning simply vanish back into the void and what triggered this event? The time, funds and effort to accomplish this enormous campaign had all gone to waste. Not only was the hulk itself gone but also four companies of space marines, seven transport vehicles and most importantly, 27 space marine Terminators. The rare occasions from where a person returning from the other side of the real/time universe forced the cabinet to draw no other conclusions that they would never see the space hulk or any people left onboard. The Empire got, however, very little time to mourn this loss. Not even twenty-four hours since the Harbinger of Despair had slipped into the void a distress signal was received from the industrial planetoid of Savonier. The planet was covered to 60 percent with water and the largest production was turbine driven engines to water scavenging ships such as the R-Ae 5. More than 2000 families lived on this planet. The distress signal was sent because of an unknown derelict had crashed not more than 27 miles from the main development facility. The scout party examining the wreck had met a horrible fate as the fallen ship was looming with genestealers and other forms of Tyranids. For now the colony was safe but with the tides and current the first estimations claimed that the wreck would drift towards them and reach the first encampments in about a week. As this signal was sent using the Astropath two days had already been wasted. The Relief forces led by the ship Vengeful Blade' was dispatched when deep space auguries in the Ultima Segmentum reported that the crashed ship was not the only one. A total of six ships had entered through the warp and apparently one of them had gotten too close to the planet. The other five vessels, presumably also infested with genestealers were heading towards the colony of Corinthe.Commander onboard the Vengeful Blade named Ares had to make a dreadful decision. The planet of Savonier had to be ignored and leaved to its fate as the colony Corinthe dwelled a larger number of inhabitants. Sheer number of people became the decisive factor. The transport ship Vengeful Blade dropped out of warp space a mere two days travel from the colony, with the Space Marines on board chanting their Catechisms of War as they prepared to reinforce the meager troops of the Corinthean Planetary Defense Force. However, as the Vengeful Blade's vast engines powered it towards the outpost, reality was torn apart again as another, much larger ship dropped out of the warp. It was a space hulk, an immense monstrosity almost fifty kilometers long and half as wide, a horrific conglomeration of alien ships which scans showed to contain an infestation of Genestealers..
