Operation: Aftermath is a Multiplayer-Based top down shooter, developed by Dark Fire Entertainment. Operation: Aftermath will feature a large amount of singleplayer and multiplayer modes including classics such as Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, King of the Hill and others! A Co-Operative Survival mode can be played by 1-4 players, on the same PC, or over a network, featuring boss encounters and a shop selling weapons, items, defenses and upgrades. Use a variety of weapons to defeat your opponents, ranging from Pistols and Magnums, to Pulse Rifles and Crossbows. Find out which weapon is right for the job. Play multiplayer online, over LAN or using splitscreen. The fun doesn't end there, with online highscores and an advanced map editor, you'll be competing with others and sharing your levels for a long time.

Development Diary #4

Welcome to week 8 of the Aftermath Developers Diary!

Sorry about the lack of updates over the past month, we've been playing a lot of Indie Games, mainly Terraria, 3079 etc. You should check them out, they're good games!

But anyway, you came here to check the progress of Aftermath, so here it is:

We've decided to ditch the Campaign mode, at least for the time being, and focus on making the game as multiplayer-friendly as possible, with multiple game modes, working AI, network play (eventually) and leaderboards.

Currently I (Dreedo) am working on the DeathMatch AI. Things are looking pretty decent so far. It's fun trying to make AI emulate human behaviour, but also very hard. You have to make many variables for the AI to check to determine what situation it's in, and then take the best course of action.

Preview of Deathmatch AI

We want to get the AI as good as possible, this should make it more interesting playing in offline mode with just 1 or 2 players, it also obviously makes DeathMatch and other multiplayer game modes playable in singleplayer.

I also took some time out to program a sentry gun turret, which will be placeable in Survival to help fend off the enemy horde.

Turrets in action

Mowcno is currently working on the Co-Op AI, he's been adding a couple of enemies, including a boss. We're gathering a fair variety of enemies for Co-Op mode, so it should be interesting when you get your hands on a copy of the game.

This screenshot shows a slightly old version of the current hud, as such it appears glitchy and unorganised.

He's also been doing some work on additional equipment, such as Mines, which will be placeable in Survival. Network mode is currently on hiatus, as we focus on more important things, such as AI and basic gameplay features.

Heres a summary of what we've done since our last Dev Diary:

- Added Turret to Survival (Don't damage yet)
- Added Mines to Survival (Don't damage yet)
- Added basic DM AI
- Added 2 new enemies to Survival
- Made Progress with the shop system
- Worked towards getting some other weapons ready
- Bug fixes and other small improvements.
