Discord Games, whose debut title Take Arms was featured in the Indie Games Summer Uprising, have released the first update to their new title 48 Chambers today. The game is 50% for the next 48 hours to celebrate the update!

The update aims to fix many issues identified by the community after release. The most requested is a new Casual mode where players are given infinite lives to work through the chambers. A new one-life Hardcore mode is included as well for the masochistic. Also featured are greatly reduced loading times, new background colors to mix things up, and a Hardcore Leaderboard for Windows.

I tried the demo version and there is some something I didn't like. It's the loadings. Every time we fail and have to retry a level, we have a 3 seconds loading screen. With this kind of game, I want to retry a level instantly.

Great game, I have a good time with it! Also it's perfect for netbook users. Keep on improving the leaderbord to keep us motivated, i also wish for a local highscore.

Thanks for playing! I've been working on improving the loading times as well, so it'll be even snappier in the next update hopefully! :D

I have local highscores for the Xbox version, but let me think about how I could integrate that with PC version.

First off I really enjoy the game, it's a great puzzle game with a great graphical style. I just have a few, albeit small, problems with it:

First off is there any way I can change the controls? I hate using WASD and control; it feels unnatural for me. I would much prefer if I could use the arrow keys and space bar for example.

Another small and annoying thing is the leaderboards. The whole point of the game really is to try and get the best score, which I really like and I could see myself trying for hours on end to try and get. The only problem is that you can have multiple entries on the leaderboard at once, for example 'brady' has loads of entries on the leaderboard and I have 3. This would allow good people at the game to clog up all 100 [?] spaces on the leaderboard for "***** and giggles". Maybe having 1 account tied to the game or overwriting an already used name will help this.

I was also thinking of a level select menu so I could beat my fastest times on a certain level, but in hindsight that will probably ruin the point of the game.

Anyway, I absolutely love the game but the controls are just too frustrating for me to use with a keyboard. I'll hold off on the review just yet incase you do fix some of the problems that I find with the game, but overall great job!

Edit: Sorry for the long post. It's also good to hear that you are adding a hardcore mode, that'll make me play a lot more.

Thanks for the feedback! You should in fact be able to use the Arrow Keys (forgot to add to the View Controls screen), but Ctrl is the only mapped button for boosting I believe. I will add Space Bar as well for Boosting in the next release.

I see your point with the leaderboard names, that is kind of frustrating. I suppose the only downside to not allowing multiples is if two people with the name James try to post scores, the other could be overwritten. I should have probably just implemented OpenFeint or something in hindsight. I'll keep thinking about it and see if I can come up with a good solution. It may be possible to use IP or Mac address to help alleviate dupes.

Let me know how the arrow keys work out for you, and I will be sure to add Spacebar into the mix for boosting. Also check out discordgames.com, I will be adding new background colors to mix things up a bit!

Thanks!!

Oops, sorry about that. I should have really tried using the arrow keys instead of straight out denying they existed. They do work a lot better than WASD and now I don't mind using Ctrl as much. Thanks for adding the spacebar in the next update though, it means I have a larger area to spam when I'm tired.

I see what you are getting at with the leaderboards though, I just kind of feel bad for spamming the leaderboards with my name. Does Desura allow for a username based system similiar to how Steam works? For example, the Desura account the player is on will be displayed on the leaderboard.

Once again sorry for my stupidity and I can't wait for what you have in store next.
