System Recommendation for 3DSmax? Thread

I'm starting a new position and trying to specify a system to run 3dsmax. Application will be modeling and rendering architectural and retail environments. Will be doing quality still and animations. Please let me know your thoughts on what you might specify if you were in my shoes. Is there capability you wish you had? Have you noticed any limitations of your system you wish you had known?

I want to be responsible on cost, but also want good rendering speed....
