Hello there,

we are currently looking for hobby game developers to join the "Seelentanz"-Project. Seelentanz (german: “Soul dance“or “Dance of the soul“) is our dream about a multiplayer roleplaying “simulation” set in an immersive fantasy world. Multiplayer in this case means 4-6 players.

About us
We are an established team of hobby game developers spread all over the world. Right now this team consists of 5 members (2 programmers, 1 artist, 1 storywriter and 1 project manager/serveradmin).

About the project
Our goal is to create an immersive roleplaying game using the Unity game engine and tools like Blender and Gimp. We started this project a few weeks ago at Indiedb.com to gather ideas from the community (which is still establishing of course) and to display information about our project. Furthermore we are using Redmine (a project management tool) to keep track of our recent progress and tasks.

About the game
I'll give you a short summary about the specific features of Seelentanz. If you're interested in learning more about it you can always head over to our indieDB page and take a look at the documents available in the download section.

  • Genre: Multiplayer Fantasy Roleplaying Game (multiplayer = 4-6 players)
  • Setting: Authentic Fantasy Environment
  • Target Group: Especially players who prefer immersive fantasy roleplaying and co-op
  • Target System: Unity supported (Windows-PC / hopefully Linux)
  • Release Date: TBD
  • Development: Indie project funded by its developers. The development will stick close to community feedback

Feature Set:
These are some of the main features for our game:

  • authentic and challenging combat system
  • no health- mana- or other bars (GUI)
  • immersive environment
  • emotional gameplay
  • social interactions between players
  • permanent death in certain situations

Inspiration:
These are our sources of inspiration. In the brackets you can see which specific feature we would like to implement in our game.

  • Pen & Paper games (interesting stories / fun while playing in a group)
  • Amnesia - The dark descent (gameplay ... almost too immersive O_o)
  • Gothic 1-2 (interactive world)
  • Icewind Dale (weapons / visual style)
  • Co-Op Multiplayer FPS (coordinating attacks / teamwork / saving friends)

About the story / gameplay
„Seelentanz“ will be a rather bloody and dark game. In the games world there are many conflicts between its inhabitants, including even racism and genocide. Players will face different hardships and problems while they’re playing. These are influenced by the player’s actions. The overall atmosphere is supposed to be emotional. Players will have to depend on their friends in multiplayer, for example when they may not enter a settlement because of their race.

This short example serves as inspiration:
You and your friends are playing together in a multiplayer session of the game. You’re close to a human settlement where your friends are currently stocking up your group’s supplies. They left you at the camp because you are a darkelf and villagers seeing you would only cause trouble for the group. Since waiting alone is rather boring you decide to explore the area around the camp. Unfortunately you get captured by some hunters. They beat you unconscious and you wake up in a prison cell. There are scary looking torture devices everywhere and a nasty grinning guard is telling you that they’ve a public execution waiting for you. He spits at you and walks away. You’re left alone, thinking about your disastrous fate.
Everything that happens afterwards is completely up to your group. Do you manage to escape on your own? Have your friends taken notice of your fate and are they attempting to rescue you? Do they take the aggressive way to safe you while slicing up all the villagers on their way or do they simply sneak in? Do they even care about you? Maybe they are attending your execution and the last thing you will see is their malicious smile while your head is being chopped off!

Who are we looking for?
We are especially looking for hobby developers with enough free time to contribute a few hours per week to this project. This includes artists (2d / 3d), programmers (C# / Javascript), sound effect designers and so on. You shouldn't be afraid of teamwork and communication, we have a weekly meeting at saturday to discuss recent progress and upcoming tasks. As team member you will have access to our server which is mainly being used for Redmine and sharing finished assets.

That's all for now. If you need more information please let me know and I'll add them to this thread. If you're interested in contributing to this project just shoot me a PM or post a reply. Furthermore feedback is always appreciated!

Hello,

Now. I am not the best Unity developer out there. However, i am good at coding and am willing to spend time helping out with the project because i would like to see the finished result. I am almost always using unity at the moment so i always have access to it and am always willing to help out. :)

If you need any more info then please email me at dwarvengames@yahoo.com.

Get back to me.
Thanks,
Matt

Updated the information on the OS. We'll be releasing this mainly for Windows PC's and hopefully for Linux once Unity4 features this OS.
Regarding plans on selling this game in the end I can't really tell you anything since we're still in an early development stage. All I can tell is that we all have expenses and we're putting time in this project so if the output is worth selling we'll do so.
