help modding a game Thread

Hi yall ,

im not that smart in modding and i need help plz . There's an old game im spending some time which has a character which is playable but not meant to be unlocked . the finall boss of this game is a character name Varlet which i managed to select and play as him with cheat engine . theres 2 files in data ess1 and ess2 both r DB files but i cant edit them for somereason. ess1 when i open with notepad look like empty spaces and cubes while ess2 is clear and just info about the game. I want to edit my save file to change my character to Varlet . its a fighting game so lets say i use Akuma(Street Fighter) on my team i want to change his ID value from 26 to 101.
