Help building a strong PC Thread

Hi, I tend to build a strong PC for working on designing and playing games because it seems to be cheaper than buying a newly built PC. However, I am not a technology lover so I feel confused when choosing the CPU and mainboard for my computer. Can you give me some suggestions? I don't want to spend too much on what I don't really need.
