half life 1 custom textures and sounds working intermittently Thread

ive been working on a mod for half life and I changed quite a few of the textures (using wally to edit halflife.wad) and sounds, but i noticed that some of the textures will randomly revert to the default textures instead of my custom ones, and some objects (buttons and doors) play their custom sounds half the time, and are completely silent the other half. Is there some kind of backup texture/sound file i need to change/remove to make my custom stuff permanent? Or is there something else im missing?
