Take caution:

- DragonBallZ mods. modDB isn't exactly friendly to them here, and there's a crap load of them, and Funimation almost foxed one and that still hasn't scared anyone today.

- Aliens or Predator mods apart from the AVP/AVP2 games. Those games have a reason for their existence, you know. Aliens Q1 and Predator Q2 have been foxed in the past and never was seen again.

- Mods based on games licensed under/by Microsoft. M$ are sticklers on copyright issues, as you can see by the legal battles with them and other companies, so don't even step onto their territory.

- Mods based on any Hasbro franchise. There's been several foxed GI Joe mods already (such as GI Joe Task force for rtcw), and they've foxed the Transformers Q2 mod a long time ago. That doesn't mean they won't fox today, just look what happened to Fenslerfilm.

- Mods based on any Marvel franchise. They're fox happy, even if it's just skins.
UPDATE: Apparently they'll take on anything that will try to resemble their works.

- Star Wars mods focused around the Jedi powers. Lucasarts did warn the UT2003 Troopers mod about it, and became a regular mod. There has been no big foxings yet, but hey they didn't release the Jedi Knight series for nothing.

- Mods based on Konami franchises. Recently, Konami stopped a Castlevania fan game when it was almost complete and ready for release, and they thought it would be quite superior to their own games.

I will update this as soon as I find more franchises that are fox-happy. Note that I don't have much against the mods listed here (I still want to play Rivalry of Legends) but it's just posted here as a forewarning.

Well, it doesn't hurt to be original though

Good to work Cheap. True.. it doesnt hurt to be original. Unless it involves a knife an da giant stick, then yes.. it will hurt O_o

Also, anything involving Blizzard, not always a mod, (Freecraft, etc.) Blizzard doesn't care about modding their games (as long as their out, cough World of Warcraft Leak) or unless their a MMORPG (cough, World of Warcraft Leak.) I also probably wouldn't try porting diablo to Warcraft 3.

Sony stuff too. They're tight on their stuff.

They foxed Stargate mod 2 years ago. Tho the new stargate mods are allowed.

Lucaarts foxed a mapper for star wars stuff in it. It was an amazing UT map.

Oct 1 2004 Anchor

a good list. it's a shame the big game companies kill fan-work like this all over the place.

Oct 1 2004 Anchor

Ah yes that's right, Blizzard....

There's also EA on the prowl, dEaThMaStEr can fill me in more on that however

what did they pull off again?

Don't forget nintendo. Those asian's who don't know whats good for them. They shut down a game which originally was a mod but later became a game. The game was called "Chrono Resurrection". A remake on Chrono Trigger. Ninentdo shut them don't without mercy. Look at the graphics on this baby. Opcoder.com I wish I had a modeler and mapper like this guy. All that work for nothing.

That's Square, not nintendo

Then again, you were making a zelda mod as well when you were thechosen -_-

Heard about Chrono Resurrection. It's really a shame... I hope they will not give up...

Oct 1 2004 Anchor

Yeh, well our zelda mod never was shutdown. We got it easy I guess. The only reason why we stopped the mod because I made a dumbass mistake.

Oct 1 2004 Anchor

what kind of mistake? (people might learn from it)

Oct 1 2004 Anchor

Not to get raise money for a mod. That was a mistake someone can learn from. I was like 11 years old then.

Oct 1 2004 Anchor

You forgot mods based on the blizzard franchise... lol I think you flamed me about that about a month after I came here :D
...Yeah and I swear if anyone tries to defend a dbz mod... those are terms for banning. :P

Chrono Resurrection, looks beautiful! but, these HUGE COMPANIES, are paranoid bastards that really think a Mod is going to ruin there companies and lifes... it's amazing how such a little mod can scare million/billion dollar companies....

Oct 1 2004 Anchor

why? most probably because they did something better than the company did.

Oct 1 2004 Anchor

I don't know. Although I was the only one who was really mapping for the mod. I made this awesome map of hyrule. :D Now I trashed it. :(

You were 11 in Dec 2002? Amazing

Actually, the mistake was he begged too much for a hud coder and his thread was getting bloated, i'm pretty sure azz0r remembers the situation.

God the Castlevania thing is pretty shit timing

My friend was totally obsessed with the Chronotrigger Resurrection project and when I saw screenshots I was incredibly impressed as well. It came as a major surprise to me, when I heard that Sqare Enix had shut it down. After having invested so much time and effort into the game engine that the developers of CTR did, I highly doubt that they'll just quit now. While they might not make a Chrono Trigger based game, it's a safe assumption that they'll find a use for their engine. ;)

Ya, we can't forget EA here... It looks like Dungeon Keeper Mod is going to have to be revamped from the ground up. Creatures except for the full cliche ones, i.e. ghosts, will be redesigned and special named ones, i.e. horned reaper, will be renamed as well. And not only did they keep us from making the mod, but they were VERY vague and indirect, playing an assload of word games..

I dont see why companies get so pissy about mods like this, it doesnt hurt their company any..

Oct 1 2004 Anchor

Don't forget Games Workshop. They tend to give most mods the go-ahead, but only if you ask permission. Otherwise they'll slap you with the C&D stick without thinking twice
