Game Machine is a startup studio focused on pushing the envelope in persistent realtime multiplayer game worlds.

My name is Chris Ochs and I'm looking for a co founder with all around artistic skills along with ambition and drive to round out the initial team. I'm a developer of 20+ years and have been involved in startups my entire career. I started my career by founding a company which was later acquired. I was a lead dev on some of the largest social/mobile games out there for a while, and then I moved into realtime games around 6 years back. Since then I created one of the first modern client/server architectures for large scale multiplayer games and open sourced it. Along the way did another startup that didn't turn out too well.

The studio is really the long term focus, but none of that matters until you can make your first hit game. That's mainly to say I have a long term vision, it's not only about the current game.

As to the current game, ya it's pretty mmo like. But not quite like anything you have seen, and it's been in development for 10 months already. Functionally it's almost in an alpha state. What's different about it? Well I said ambitious. It's a massive scale pvp game that doesn't require a massive amount of players but retains the large scale feel using 3rd person.

Visually, well that's why I'm here. In order to move forward with funding, visuals and first impressions matter. I need my artistic half. I will be working traditional funding sources and plan on a kickstarter of course. But before I can really get rolling on that, I need the right co founder.

The plan is co founder -> seed round -> kickstarter. Get enough funding to make a really good kickstarter and some work on visuals in the right areas to do a great gameplay video.

I'll admit I'd love to get someone really experienced, but you never know what you will find in someone maybe less experienced but hard working and just damn talented. So I'm open there.

When I say open, I need someone who maybe doesn't have the experience working on real games in this genre. But I still need the raw talent and abilities in place. As an example these are a few of the first things we would need starting out.

- Character models good enough for kickstarter/gameplay videos.

- Structural models for our runtime building. Again good enough for early alpha type state.

- Terrain textures, a few environment models. Possibly some sky boxes.

- Misc textures for stuff like my horrible effects.

- An actual art style, applied to all of the above.

I've already made a lot of strategic decisions in areas like the above. Not set in stone but we aren't starting from ground zero here. I have a very clear picture of the art style we should use based on a number of strategic goals like what we can actually afford and crank out in a decent amount of time.

Starting out I need someone who can commit time for 2-3 months without any pay. I've raised funding before, and now is a great time for getting funding for games. But there is no way to make any promises there. You would get a good chunk of equity, details depending on what you bring to the table.

I can be reached at chris@ochsnet.com.
