Check out a competition going live for this base building action RPG, partnered with mod.io!

Posted by on

The Riftbreaker, the latest game from Exor Studios (who found their footing fifteen years ago now with their Half-Life 2 total conversion, D.I.P.R.I.P.), has mod support that has been powered by mod.io for a while, and now, to incentivize their community to make the most of the situation, a modding competition is here with some great rewards!

The Riftbreaker is the newest title by Exor Studios, and places you as the commander of an advanced mech suit capable of travelling across dimensions. Your mission is to find strange new worlds and plunder them for resources, but the inhabitants of those worlds are rarely receptive to your efforts and so a mixture of base building and RPG control turns any mining trip into a desperate fight for survival, as profiteering becomes secondary to the goal of building a rift that will get you back home.

The Riftbreaker has a prologue release which tells of events prior to the main game, and also functions as a demo - a handy way to get into the universe. For those who want more content from outside the game, modding support powered by mod.io has been on the table for some time now, supporting custom maps, custom game modes, missions, and then custom content for adding additional base building options, mechanics, and more.

A custom Riftbreaker PC case is the 1st place award for Exor Studios' competition

To bolster their community of creators, Exor Studios kicked off a modding competition just yesterday that will allow modders to compete in two categories - custom maps, which revolve around missions, scenarios, and gamemodes (with custom assets encouraged to help your map stand out), and game modifications, which focuses on substantially switching up how the game is played regardless of map, mission, or mode.

2nd place winners can take home a new AMD card

1st place in each category gets a top notch, custom-built Riftbreaker themed PC (with two different variants to be randomly handed out). Meanwhile, second place winners will get a solid new AMD card to add to their existing rig instead. Anyone placing all the way up to 8th postition will get a plushie based off of The Riftbreaker mech suit, and also some goodies labelled "Exor Studios gadgets". Mouse mats? Posters? Who knows, but it gives creators concerned about nabbing pole position some additional rewards to shoot for.

The competition began yesterday, March 10th, and runs until June 10th. There's a pretty hefty list of stipulations - such as reskins not being permitted, and making sure your content is on both mod.io and the Steam Workshop - so check out the full blog post here and make sure to take a read over the rules before you get down to business. To encourage people onboard, the game's currently on sale for £16.24 GBP/$19.49 USD, and with three months of runway, there's plenty of time for you to pick up the game and get started with the tools for your own shot at the grand prizes.
