This download conveniently installs and launches the Mac OSX version of the Stanley Parable v1.4. You still need to have Half Life 2 installed to your computer. All you should need to do is open the .dmg and then open the launcher. If it's not working, check the readme.
Additions to v1.4 include:
-Numerous bug fixes
-Closed Captioning in English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Turkish
-Opening scene now skippable anytime throughout the scene
-Updated Stanley's monitor to include text
-Modified elevator to include arrows on the buttons
-Updated keypad in boss's office to include screen
-Converted all *.wav files to *.mp3 to significantly reduce file size
Thank you to Collin Eddings for this remastered version of the game, and to Rory Sinclair for porting it to Mac!
Im using Mac and when I launch This Stanley Parable it launches then says loading and then i get an error saying: The Stanley Parable has quit unexpectedly. Any help?
From the games standpoint, "Stanley quit unexpectedly." is pretty great!
Script cannot find the hl2_osx binary.
Is HL2 installed?
YES IT IS!! I know I have the hl2_osx, b/c i found it and ran it.
How do I get this to find it?!
It keeps telling me (even though it was working a few days ago) that I don't have HL2 installed plus other error messages. I am re-downloading/installing to see if that helps.
I have a Let's Play of this on my channel if you're interested :) Youtube.com
do you have Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2 Deathmatch? Beacause there is a diference

Why won't it work? I just don't understand.
OK. I've done some digging and as Valve has kindly decided to move some of the file locations since the latest version of the Stanley parable was released it means the "run.sh" file needs modifying. you need to open the run.sh file in a text editor and scroll down a little to where the "#location of the binary" and change the line that says GAMEROOT="$HOME/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/$STEAMUSERID/half-life 2" to GAMEROOT="$HOME/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-life 2"
This is as far as i have got, yes it now finds the hl2_osx file but it still fails to launch and complains about not being able to find a loading background .vtf file. which isnt in the folder it should be.
Just to be crystal clear about the method so far:
right click The Stanley Parable app and click "show package contents"
go to Contents/MacOS/run.sh
open this in a text editor
find the line of code that says "#location of the binary" and replace the line below with
GAMEROOT="$HOME/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-life 2"

its says "Can't find background image materials/console/startup_loading.vtf" whenever I try to start it up and it freezes right after the valve logo come up.

I've found a solution to this.
There's an issue in the gameinfo.txt, so download this modified one: Pastebin.com and put it in Contents/Resources/thestanleyparable

You do not have to modify run.sh to make it work, simply type "common" instead of your steam ID.

To everyone, the reason why Stanley Parable isn't running on OSX is because the game was made using textures from SDK Base 2007 which isn't available... until now. So go on steam and download it from the tools section
The game keeps asking for my username and once I insert it and click enter it just shows a white screen and closes out to the desktop
whenever I try to play the game (not though steam) I get this error
MountAppFilesystem() failed: SteamMountAppFilesystem (220,4294967295,0xb5aaed78) failed with error 116: Cache needs repair
and whenever I try to play the game though steam I click the play button and nothing happens.
I have a late 2011 macbook pro and my osx is mavericks.
Every time I try to launch it, it asks me for my Steam User ID. I always enter it but nothing happens then! :/
Same thing!
Instead of username, put common

all of the files that need to be edited in order to get this to work are locked! Any way to access them?

I can honestly say this doesn't work for the Mac anymore. I mean, I know the Stanley Parable HD is better in almost every way, but they completely changed the train station ending, mainly because the game was based on Portal 2 instead of Half-Life 2. I want to play the original version too, but I can't do that because the SteamPipe transition broke this port. Can someone fix it please?

I found out. When it asks for the steam user id. Just say: common
It says "whats your steam id?" and thats all, after that nothing happens
