umm... no offense but I liked the first demo better, I know you worked hard, but well... ya, first I liked the first gun, it was nice of you to give us a new toy to play with but the muzzle flare made it impossible to aim, second the bottom of the screen had this weird white bar phazing off and onto the screen, third you changed the map!! I couldnt find my way around, and forth which has to do with the part of me not being able to find my way around, you made the map way too dark, it was very very hard to see. I still love the gameplay, and you did fix alot of the problems from the first demo, but you also created new ones, I dont mean to come across as an A-hole, and I dont want people to belittle me because of this post, I just hope you take into consideration what I said.

Yea first gun was so much better, nicely balanced and futuristic looking.

This one is too recognizable mixture between m60 and m4 with some custom addons.

Screen is constantly shaking, making impossible to aim. Mortars looks to much like meteors. I died several times before I realized it was mortar whats killing me.

terminators looks great, atmosphere is good. It starting to feel really like terminator.

@blahblah965

Even if you do have 8 gigs of ram or 2 video cards.
It doesn't matters, all you need is 4 gigs of GOOD ram and 1 GOOD video card.
I think this has 2 causes :

1. the game doesn't support Crossfire or Sli yet.

Possible solution :

Just disable 1 video card and try if that works.

2. You got 2 bad video cards, well poor luck for you then.

Possible solution :

Go out to the store and buy a proper one.

Another possible solution is wait for a new release of this game, then set quality settings to "low".

Good intentions behind this. Clearly there is still love for the Terminator franchise, and this demo proves it. However, there are some major problems here (alpha/demo be damned).

1. You're dropped in the middle of some battle, yet, what are you supposed to do? Where are you supposed to go? No HUD or explanations don't help matters. The design of the map should be nailed down before you even open up the UDK, let alone model and script.

2. Death comes too easy and too quickly. This is supposed to be a demo, right? Any casual gamer should be able to pick it up and enjoy it w/o getting frustrated. It reminds me of those old skool '80s, suck, NES games based on popular movie franchises(a la Friday the 13th, Knight Rider, Karate Kid) where a piece of paper flying through the air would 1-shot kill you.

3. Tone down the RECOIL and the MUZZLE flash. The recoil is absolutely abysmal. When aiming down the scope, it is nigh impossible to see, let alone properly aim and hit a moving target. Speaking of which, why do you have to HOLD down right-click on the mouse just to aim down? I also think a cross-hair system (toggle on/off for those who bitch) might be welcome.

4. As someone else pointed out, this really feels console-ish. Partially dealing w/ the above, the FOV sights are horribly constrained and feels too tight. This is the year 2010, where the vast majority of users and gamers are at widescreen 16x9, or 16x10 resolutions. The FOV should accompany this, at around 75+. Right now it feels like the crappy Call of Juarez sequel.

I know some will probably bash this post (so many touchy-feely kids these days...) and read it as a negative. But in truth it's critiques which were written w/ the best intentions to help guide the modder polish this alpha into an enjoyable demo. I really do think this has a lot of potential given the proper care and time.

Cheers and best of luck to ya.

I agree with

1, and 3.

I partially agree with 2 because It has to do with 1. I'm not showing you guys how to play it right.

I completely disagree with 4. I don't get why people classify games with Fov equivalent to that of a standard film camera as a console game.

A standard film lens is 35mm, that's a fov of 55. the first demo was at that fov but I'm being very generous to crank it up 5 degrees. If I was to raise it more, it will kill the cinematic look. you say that it's 2010 but the truth is most AAA fps games in 2010 have that kind of fov. High fov was a 90s thing.

"A standard film lens is 35mm, that's a fov of 55."

Except we're not watching a movie, let alone on a big movie screen :) Not only does using film as an example not apply here for that reason, but - if you want to use film as an example - (most) movies are filmed from a 3rd person perspective, not first person (like in the case of this demo, as even the title of the demo implies).

I will say that if you're playing this demo from more than a couple of feet away, say on a couch 15 feet away, for example, a FOV of 60 would be tolerable. But since this is on the PC, most gamers are probably sitting roughly 3-5 feet from their WIDESCREEN monitors. Not to mention some hardcore gamers love to run not ONE, but TWO or even THREE widescreen monitors side-by-side, playing simultaneously. The FOV on that would need to be adjusted even more accordingly.

Again since this is for the PC first and foremost, it should be reasonable to include settings where users can alter their FOV based on their own setup and personal taste. COD4 is a perfect example of this. While defaulted at 65, you could change it to something drastic and wide as 80, I believe. No complaints there :)

Switching gears here, have you contemplated how far you plan to expand this so-called demo? I think the metal shaders of the T-800's look pretty awesome. Have you considered hiring additional modelers/artists and such to do, say, an Arnold Schwarzenegger skinned, and/or battle damaged T-800 :D ?

Perhaps even expand this demo w/ a story backdrop. Maybe your mission, from John Connor himself, is to (somehow) capture a T-800 w/o damaging it too badly, so you can eventually bring it back to base, reprogram it, and send it back to 1991 to protect teenage John Connor! How cool would THAT be?

there is quite a plot for the campaign but I'm not even nearly ready to reveal it. The demo you just played is more of a tech demo, or a proof of concept. just to expose the idea of the project.

just like in your first comment about the player is getting lost is being taken care of. And i'm not executing by reducing the chaos, like people suggested, but to better write the NPC to "hold your hand" when needed. The T800s are quite easy to take out, and the motars are easy to avoid, but only if you know how. It's the matter of teaching the player what to do. which is not what I have at the moment, but will apply soon.

but I still continue to argue the subject of FOV. almost every fps this gen have a fov between 75-55 and it's not just console games. Crysis has a default fov of 60. but I guess what sets pc games from console games in terms of fov is not their default, but the option to change fov. I might have that option just for peoples' taste but I'm afraid to give people the power to "kill" the cinematic experience that I want them to have.

The Idea is to have a linear experience that's large in scale. that means I put the player is a "large Maze" ,which is the scale half. All I need to do now, is put the signs/streetnames (metaphorically speaking) in it, which is the linear experience half.

I have tried this myself and DID expect things to go choppy, thats natural when it comes to testing Alpha versions of future games.

I also know ALL the development stages that this game will be going through(if you are curious what these stages are then ask me).

This is a good start especially for it being on the UT3 Engine.

And yes, I experienced the same tech probs and what not like any other user in this forum.

It's gonna be like that for awhile depending on how much time/effort is thrown into this project.

I can tell this is gonna take quite some time before we see another update to this Alpha(most likely the Dev will make).

But all in all, good start.

Hey man, here, this is my take. First mod installed fine and played "ok". This means it loaded, I got through the initial cut-scene (though cam angles really need to make a little more sense as you get dropped into the hot-zone. Audio needs a bit of work. Ultimately, better than I've ever done, so there's that.

Here's the clincher. Keeps turning to the left. I can't hold center, my view keeps circling left, and no matter how much I move my mouse to the right to counter, continues to turn, making play impossible.

Installing version 1.01 to see if that works.

No, that didn't work. It still keeps spinning to the left, and so I can't play this demo. Before anyone says anything about my computer, which is really silly when you think about it (like in a previous comment), no, I'm running easily a mid-grade system, I play BC2, MW2, OpFlashpoint: DR, ARMAII, ARMAII: Operation Arrowhead on this system daily and it doesn't bog it or cause any sort of graphical or play problems whatsoever. I'm running an AMD 2.5Ghz with 4 gigs of Ram and 1 Gig dedicated on a 9400GT, with a G9 mouse. This is the weirdest issue I've ever seen.

Anyone else have the turning problem? It makes it totally unplayable. I look forward to a bug fix, it would be cool to play this and give you a real opinion on it. Weapons fire is nice, but there's no muzzle flash whatsoever... Audio needs a bit of work, and camera angles are almost a little non-sensical as you're descending into the drop-zone, but it's a good start.

Any idea why it wants to turn left like it does?

" I might have that option just for peoples' taste but I'm afraid to give people the power to "kill" the cinematic experience that I want them to have."

Umm, pardon my saying, and I'm not really arguing for or against... But
I don't think that broadening the field of view is going to kill the cinematic feel, in fact, it provides deeper immersion that way. Providing both your default settings and the option to customize it then caters to both crowds. Those that agree with what they can take from it in the cinematic sense, and those that want to see more.

Ultimately, it's about the people playing (buying?) the game, and how they can most easily and seamlessly mesh with your vision of the world you're presenting. Just keep it gritty, like you are so far as I can tell (what with the spinning to the left thing), and you're onto something here. We need a 1600x900 resolution setting. That's my native, and I'm running a 20" wide-screen, which is why I point that out.

Oh, and a toggle on the scope/zoom function, rather than holding down the right mouse.

I fubared here. Hahah, apparently (this was the issue) I had a conflict from either my joy-stick or joy-pad from logitech, interfering with my mouse. I logged into APB for the first time and it was doing the same thing, spinning to the left. So I'm going to try the game and see how it performs, now those are no longer conflicting. I apologize for not coming upon this solution sooner.

Just tried it. The video looked nice, but actually playing felt impossible. The visual effects were too much. I couldnt get past the first part, since the shaking threw me completely off, combined with moments that the entire screen just blacked out on me (very often in the small minute of gameplay i tried)

you need to find a way to implement the neat visuals, without interfering with gameplay

Also, I had to lower the resolution (on my CPU that runs crysis fine on highest graphics) which made it run properly, but ****** up my screen, so it didn't look nice at all...

Also, about the FOV, it makes it terrible for finding the bad guys quickly. I'm used to using my widescreen monitor. This is just like OpF Dragon Rising, where the FOV was so small that you had a compass on the GUI that gave a blip for every enemy that you can "see".

We're not watching a movie here, we are immersing ourselves in one, and so the 35mm lens is off in the distance, watching us kick ***, not glued to our face, weighing us down terribly.
