Post news Report RSS New text editor and member image manager

We've got a number of enhancements to the site which we have just deployed. If you manage content they should make your life a lot better!

Posted by on

Write a lot of news posts or manage your mod or game profile? Editing it should now be a lot easier! We have finally emerged from the stoneage with a new HTML5 WYSIWYG text editor which should exactly mirror how your post looks. If you want to test it out pretend you are posting news and scroll down to the content section.

Another big feature for the text editor is a handy image uploader personalized for every member. Want to include an image in your post? Awesome that is easy peasy now, just follow the steps below...

If you track where visitors come from to your profile, we have updated it so the referrers you have visited already are dulled out:

Adding large downloads should be easier, because we now support uploading from Dropbox and Google Drive (provided the file is shared and public).

Finally, we have updated our code syntax highlighter - so if you need to share code or write a tutorial perhaps it is much easier to do. Just click the "Insert/edit code snippet" then button paste in your code to wind up with something like this:

<ul class="tabs">
	<li class="on"><a href="/" title="All platforms">HOME</a></li>
	<li><a href="/platforms/set/xone">XONE</a></li>
	<li><a href="/platforms/set/ps4">PS4</a></li>
	<li><a href="/platforms/set/wiiu">WiiU</a></li>
	<li><a href="/platforms/set/iphone">iPhone</a></li>
	<li><a href="/platforms/set/android">Android</a></li>
	<li><a href="/platforms/set/vr">VR</a></li>
</ul>

Great work with image editor! It always was inconvenient to upload pics somewhere and only then insert links to the text.

I very glad that Mod DB team always working with the site to make it more better.

But unfortunately, with the new editor code of all materials became very "dirty" and formatting of the materials became incorrect (as example - Moddb.com , Moddb.com ). Lost padding, etc. Even when we use editor with clean material (without code from previous editor), it work bad, forgot about paddings.

Also when in material were added two videos with Mod DB player, one of them is not work. Moddb.com (Try to refresh page few times).

There were minor changes to the CSS and the way the system parses the HTML you write.

If you include a <p> tag it will not do any processing on it, as this matches the code the new editor provides. But if there is none it will process it.

The new editor is truely WYSIWYG so if you edit within it, it should exactly mirror what you see in your news post. If there are bugs however please point them out and I will fix them as there have been a number of tweaks I have had to make

nice, we finally can upload from dropbox and drives. :D

and yeah, looks like the new text editing system broke the pages layout that uses custom html/css coding. like those with custom background images, text tabs, positioning, and <div> tags.
it also sometimes adds unwanted tags after editing from source code view. I know it's the auto-fix feature, but still annoying when you can't get the result you wanted.

Thanks a lot. The ancient version of TinyMCE was really terrible. We started copy and pasting proper HTML news into it instead of using it to write original content and even then it messed up the formatting.

It is a bit sad that you are now disconnected from Indiedb.com both feature wise (they still have the old TinyMCE) and because the news/comments are now disconnected. Also I would have welcomed it if you monetized through sales there instead of relying on obstrusive and privacy invading ads. :(

We have been disconnected for over 2 years now - so the features will be very different.

If we could monetize without ads, I'd turn off ads instantly - so I need to figure that one out. The site costs a lot to run because we do over 2000mbps of bandwidth!
