Development blog: Tags feature

XanT Blog

As always we're chipping away at our to-do list behind the scenes to keep adding features for our community, and if you have recently been to the edit page for many of the sites areas you would have probably seen our new Tags tab.

tags2

Whilst nothing on the site is currently using these tags this will change in the near future when we start incorporating it into the following areas:

  • Our big events such as Mod/Indie of the year
  • Competitions/giveaways
  • Filtering content when browsing
  • Notifying other projects and site members
  • and more

Essentially this post is just to let you know that while adding these tags doesn't appear to do a whole lot in terms of the sites functionality - we will be using the tags feature to integrate future features on the site! We've got a lot in the pipeline at the moment and are looking forward to gradually rolling out more and more features for our community. We do encourage you in the meantime to apply any relevant tags to your new and existing submissions.

As always if you do have any recommendations for features we should add to the site, you're welcome to send me a private message/email and can also post recommendations on our GitHub page. Till next time!

Hi everyone!

My account has admittedly not been very visually active in recent times so a blog post is a good start to turn that around. So here's a little summarized version about me and my history:

I have recently come on board as an apprentice web developer (with uni filling my brains on the side) to help out with development and general day-to-day tasks around the Dbolical network. Computer games & game development are a great passion of mine and modding is something I have covered extensively in the past (if anyone here remembers Amped Mods/Amped DX). Back with Amped I recall covering huge releases for Battlefield 1942's monster TC like Desert Combat & Eve of Destruction as well as interviewing developers & industry figures from Dystopia's developers to Valve's Doug Lombardi. I tried as well...

Patrick: Two words, one number. Half-Life 3?
Doug Lombardi: Oh boy.

So life took a bit of a turn after things at Amped went belly up and I found myself doing something completely different for 40 hours a week - Baking. Hell of a lifestyle change at the time but minus the unsociable hours and few other cons I enjoyed it and stuck to it for the next 7 and a half years. I made the decision in September last year to go back to school and enrolled in an undergraduate programming degree here in Melbourne which I am enjoying tremendously from the comfort of my computer chair at home (seriously, online study is the best) and will be doing until late 2017.

So recently got the opportunity to come on-board to help out intense! with some behind the scene development. I feel incredibly humbled to be coming back to my I.T and gaming roots and I hope that I will be able to do some great things across the Dbolical sites to make your experience here as awesome as it possibly can be.

If you run into any problems or have any questions regarding the sites or maybe some idea's that you think would be an great addition to the site please don't hesitate to send me a PM or an e-mail.

Cheers and talk soon!
