I'm a long-time gamer with a bit of experience in the development industry, currently employed by a company which produces single-and-multiplayer RPGs. Horror games are my favorite, from F.E.A.R. to Silent Hill.

Hmm. I'm encountering an odd bug. I'm trying to play a Brute, but my punch attacks keep stalling out. The character stops in mid-step or mid-punch and doesn't resume moving unless I click elsewhere.

Used the installer, could see no difference. Used the uninstaller, seemed to remove the files, but now Windows regards Underlord as still being installed with no option to uninstall it.

Turns out if your version is 1.0.5, the boss is faster than she's supposed to be and you'll need 1.0.6, which I got by e-mailing the dev.

Is there a trick, then? I've been stuck on her for two days now because she just moves so absurdly fast that there's no hope of dodging.

Is it just me, or does Lylith move about twice as fast as she does in this video? Youtube.com

I can't dodge her at all and she's really hard to hit. It's enough to make me feel like there's an item I'm missing or something similar. Seriously, watching this guy easily step out of the way of her attacks while she inerringly nails me every time makes me feel like something's either horribly wrong or I'm not meant to be able to beat her yet.

Curious, but game crashes on the title screen, so I can't play it. Windows 7.

Okay, so... I left a soldier alive and ran ahead. Later on, under similar circumstances, killing a soldier once again crashed the program. I don't get it; the mod worked fine on my old computer. So did Nightmare House 2, and now that mod utterly fails to display even a single shadow. Do these mods just hate Windows 7?

Mmm. Game crashes every time I kill the last soldier in the power station - the ones that spawn after you get a warning about dropships converging on your location.

Hmm, shadows are no longer being displayed for me. Shadow quality is set on high, but no shadows appear at all (including the dangerous shadows in the hallway trap). Any idea how to fix this?

Yes, but the reason this doesn't excuse bad game design should be evident. Imagine if I made a game where the character has severe pyromania, so every single surface of every single object was made out of fire. Even if your computer didn't immediately explode from trying to load thousands of complex lighting and animation elements, the game would be unplayable due to taking damage from every surface.

It saddens me, it really does, that Korsakovia is very nearly unplayable. It has potential, but between excrutiatingly bad audio cuts, monsters that can crash the game if you so much as LOOK at them (quite literally) and maps that are so prone to crashes that it's possible to ruin your file by quicksaving in them... it's not even an experience, just a frustrating exercise of patience as you reload and try again as it continually crashes and locks up. And then if you actually manage to make it work, it's almost impossible to win anyway.

I get an error that I need Duke Nukem 3D in order to play it.

Edit: Ah, run the batch file and it works.

With as much backend development as you're doing now, hopefully you'll be inspired to tackle a longer and more developed campaign mode!

The spitters on the train seem way too powerful. They take three or four hits with the baton or shots from the pistol, but do about 20% of your health in a single hit. Their positioning and the area makes it almost impossible to dodge them (and they aren't as easily faked out as the bed monsters) and it can be hard to hit them without trading multiple shots.

Doesn't work for me. Godmode and noclip cheats are listed as being on already (and obviously aren't).

Hmm. Just got the fuse from Ronald Street, but on my way back, I crawled through a corridor and now I'm trapped in the area with the tree monster. The crawlspace now has an invisible wall in front of it, so I can't return the way I came. The way forward leads to a dead end with a map covered in blood, which unfortunately doesn't seem to indicate which way to go...

Um. Yeah, this reminds me very much of those bizarre French art films that everyone thinks of whenever they hear the words "bizarre French art films." They do exist; I've seen my share and they really are that bad. Strip this game down to its base mechanics and this is a game where you walk around and ask people a question (which sounds like "Do you speak German?" to my ear) and they each, regardless of sex or situation, give the same voiceover reply. There's no real gameplay or interaction, so the meaning is left entirely to be derived by the player. Obviously there IS a meaning--I'm pretty sure I understood what it was--but it's less "adventure horror game" and more "minimalistic abstract story."

I finally found it too. A lot of people had made some very vague references to "flower pot man" and "an ant that breaks windows," but obviously I have no idea what they're talking about yet. The broken window is hard to see. I could actually see a hammer zombie just outside the back of the bus, which I thought might be an event that was supposed to happen and didn't, then realized I was hearing the glass-crunching-underfoot sound and discovered the window. >.<

I'm starting to wonder if I broke something. I can't find my way onto Ronald Street -- I've tried the key on every locked door I can find. The map shows it as being connected to the park, but none of the doors near there seem to work.

Anyone who's having trouble with certain areas loading, try launching the game from CoFLaunchApp -- it seems to be more stable for me.

Am on the verge of ragequitting though after having tried and failed to make the jumps between catwalks. The save point is so bloody far away and it's so easy to fall over and over. I really hate when people treat Half-Life like a platformer.

So far, I'm loving this. The quality is so far beyond anything I've ever seen done on the Half-Life engine. I've found a minor rendering glitch though -- if you look straight down into a puddle of water, the textures at the top of the screen will appear as vertical black and white lines.

That explains it. When it said to make sure no one else had access to it, I thought it might be something in-game. I was doing things like hacking the e-mail server and trying to eliminate the admin account. XD

The only thing I can gripe about is how scp is caps-sensitive. It's the only thing in the game that is.

Also, the credits server Final Task button doesn't seem to work?

So you steal a couple of screenshots and mark the mod as released, then wonder why you get complaints? Protip: When you do these things, you're insulting our intelligence.

Y'know, I search with the "Released" parameter on to avoid coming across dead mods. Don't mark your mod as released if it's not. :p

Overall I liked the demo. I agree that the datalogs should be in by default -- I didn't even realize that's what the option referred to and played through without even knowing they existed. I only have two gripes about the game thus far. First is the pause between shots, which feels a little long, but being able to play with the second gun longer probably would have helped that. Second is the kneel and crawl mechanics -- they feel a little clumsier than Metroid's ball form, especially when trying to jump and crouch at the same time (although Half-Life was worse about that).

Overall, quite looking forward to this being completed.

Neither of you are reading it in context. The reason it would be delayed is because work on it slows or even halts if the developers get too mugged down with negativity because of overanxious people with absurd amounts of entitlement flaming them for not having it out already.

You'd be shocked at how many companies would be more than happy to tell their customers to screw off and be happy with what they get. Most just CAN'T because of the theoretical threat to their business. Here, in a non-commercial publication where there's no business to worry about at all? I'd be mildly envious they can tell ungrateful people how they feel.
