Nobelissimos @ Movie Battles II

Forgot about this game for quite a long time. Played Jedi Knight since it released, tons back in the day and havne't played much in the past 10-15 years now. Briefly played this mod a few years back but the community was entirely hostile to new players and my first match I got randomnly teamkilled and then called racial slurs when I asked a question about the game modes and then banned later when someone accused me of being some guys alt account for some reason.

Other servers weren't much kinder and outside of a few players I met over some time, pretty much everyone was just awful.

Haven't played it in a long time still, but sad to hear from others that the community is still small and miserable. Unfortunately this isn't unique to this mod as most older games and mods have small communities of people who have played way too much and are bored of the game but just can't leave it, and just can't help but being hostile and repulsing any new blood to the game on instinct.

Also always thought it was a crying shame the devs put so much effort into all the interesting maps and different classes and scenarios but 99% of the regular players only insist on playing on the same map with the same mode with either a sniper or a jedi and nothing else, been like that for years before I first played and been like that for years after.

It's insane to me that this mod has been in development at least since 2008 and it never went anywhere and was never actually played, and certainly not "finished". And even crazier that there was a version of this mod before 2008 but I have heard very little of it and seen no videos of it.

I followed this mod for about maybe 10, or 12 years? Maybe a little more? Always checked on it every few months to a year when I remembered about it. Tried it a few times but no players were ever online when they had server tests for it, figured I was just always on at a bad time.

Then in late 2020 they finally call it quits. It was already near death for a couple of years, maybe since around 2017, since most of the devs quit or just didn't have time to work on it anymore.

Real shame. They did some great stuff with this mod, it looked fantastic, and it was all for absolutely nothing as nobody really got to even enjoy it.

I feel like maybe someone, some day, should do some kind of internet documentary on this mod, it's gotta get some kind of notice, right? It's almost like a fossil.

I had this mod in my thoughts for a significant chunk of my life and it never had it's chance to actually be played as far as I know. I can't imagine what the devs feel like working on this for so long only for it to decay into nothing and not even let anyone have their work to continue it.

Almost as much as a disappointment as star citizen.

Im suprised this mod is still around. I tried for a long time years ago to get people to play it, tried getting games together, then when it got more popular and a small community grew to play it, it was completley filled with some of the worst people ive ever met. I havent played this mod in years and don't recommend doing so. The creators are really awful people and so are most of the people who play the mod.

Some people were abusing a major issue bug where you could spam out infinite spore mines at a fast pace, completely covering the map in mines so the marine team could do nothing. Not a fun experience. And despite the small playerbase, everyone on the tyranid team had no issue with ruining the game by doing this. When I told one of the creators, they banned me or kicked me i dont remember, for "complaining".

Not worth the time even now.

Nobelissimos @ Blizzard Wants All Mods And Custom Maps To Work With Warcraft III: Reforged

They are killing the original game to sell this crap. I won't be buying it, despite wanting a modern remake/remaster of the game. The way blizzard has gone with this has been all wrong and I have zero trust in the company anymore. Really isnt surprising considering all the other blunders they have done recently.

They broke a ton of custom maps too with their buggy *** "updates".

This remaster is going to be like starcraft 2. The boring repetitive scene of players are the only ones going to be playing it for ladder, and the only custom maps will be tower defense, MOBAs and desert strike.

If you don't believe me go look at starcraft 2, its the same 5 or so repetitive maps played boring people. Warcraft 3 has (or rather, had) many, many brilliant maps, a LOT of effort and time had gone into them by many people, and now a lot of it is gone.

A real shame. I don't think I will ever buy a activision/blizzard product again unless they seriously fix this which I highly doubt. If this proceed they way they plan to, then the only way to play Warcraft 3 will be on a private network called Wc3connect.

Nobelissimos @ Samarsk Uprising - Wh40k Total Conversion

Glad to see 40k mod for arma 3 finally. Tho i just dawned on me, how are you going to do melee? Melee in 40k is almost essential. Only way I can see it being done is having a gun that shoots really wide with a really short range, and just have the gun be a chainsword model or something with animations and all that, and maybe give it a short cooldown between shots so you can't spam it.

Anyone know what ever happened to the devs? They were working on another game and their website died off in 2012, not a single word from any of them whatsoever since then, no mention of giving up or moving on, just suddenly died off.

Maybe they literally did die?

I really liked this mod, theres no other game or mod like it unfortunately. I hope someone else will one day make something similar.

SEGA hates modders if you haven't noticed, because most of their time is focused on selling DLC, and they view mods as a threat to DLC sales.

Their games are just DLC platforms, COH 2 was one, this will be no different.

DoW 2 was barely even touched by "mods", this might, at most, will have the abbility to change textures, that's it.

They already make tons of free money by having people buy other people's games on their store, make tons of money from their in-game lotteries from CSGO and TF2, and they are still not satisfied.

They won't even dish out a few extra dollars to get more than 2 people on their customer service department, they have some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

Nobelissimos @ Call of Warhammer: Beginning of The End Times

I just finished playing the Empire campagin, I spent an extra 40 or so turns doing all the quests which I held off because they took alot of effort and moving around when I was busy defending my lands and wiping out the damned wood elves who decided to ally with dwarves, goblins, wiped out bretonnia, and constantly started wars with me, which is hillarious because all of that is the exact opposite of what they would do in fluff.

Im a huge fan of necromancy so I am doing a Sylvania campagin now.

Despite all the problems I wrote about, I discovered that theres quite a few mods on the steam workshop that actually fix or attempt to fix some of them. So, theres a good chance that the game could be pretty good with mods. Theres one that adds formations, one that slows down combat so everyones not dying in 5 seconds or mass routing as soon as a unit breaks. Also unlocker mods that unlock non-playable factions, so now you can play as other Empire provinces other than Reikland.

But yes, usually in these humble bundles, AAA games tend to be sold cheap because they intend to sell all that sweet dlc. Thats what alot of companies do these days anyways, make their games "dlc platforms" where the base game isn't even intended to be played alone without any dlc. SEGA does this with ALOT of their games. Dawn of war 3 will be just like this.

However, thus far, none of the dlc interests me. Chaos warriors should have been with the base game, not behind a pay wall. Beastmen are meh, wood elves aren't that interesting to me and from what I heard they don't even have half their roster. Im not going to pay for dlc just to be able to use a few new units like free company and flaggelents, im not going to pay 3 dollars to add BLOOD TEXTURES to my game.

But, if they do ever put their dlc on a huge discount and im still playing this game, I might get some of them, especially if they add tomb kings, skaven, lizardmen, high and dark elves, and chaos gods.

Medieval 2 is still my favorite game and I think most people can agree, it has the best battles of the entire franchise, despite people's complaints of how strong spamming heavy cavalry charges are.

When they made Empire, things started to get "meh". Instead of fully fixing Empire they just made Napoleon as a full priced game instead of an expansion, Napoleon was pretty good tho, could have been better. Shogun 2 was for sure one of their best games. Personally I am not a big fan, mostly because of it being in one area (different japanese clans but still all japanese, not really any other cultures around.

Then the diasaster that was Rome 2, which after they fixed up with emperor edition, its not that bad of a game. Attilia I honestly don't know all that much about and have little care for it.

TW Warhammer just feels like "Baby's First War".

Nobelissimos
Nobelissimos @ Call of Warhammer: Beginning of The End Times

DLC policy and bugs aside, the game is just really dumbed down, they stripped so many features and details out that you could find even in Rome 2.

I thought the game was ok before I bought it but wasn't a fan. But after playing about 50-60 hours of it, I just found more and more stuff that made me dislike the game.

The biggest issue is the battles. They brought back unit combat like how it was in older games, where individual soldiers actually attacked the enemy, rather than just playing kill animations all the time, and also brought back unit collision (Sorta).

Great you might think, but that doesn't make much difference when battles struggle to get past 8 minutes most of the time.

The camapgin map is small, the battle maps are TINY, and they removed map generation from all the previous games (where the battle map looks like the area your army is standing on the campagin map, if you're on a hill, you deploy on that hill). Also deployment zones never change.

So now battles just take place on a handful of maps. I have seen the exact same map every single battle I have had in the bretonnian area.

Siege maps are just a wall and abit of a city behind it, ai pathfinding and behavior is really bad in sieges. They send archers up on siege towers to attack your melee infantry, they stand around or move back and forth getting "stuck" once past the walls, making it easy just to kill them with ranged from your walls while they stand there (especially when routing, they just run back and forth in a small area)

Siege battles are the worst, and its something the devs were so proud of, kinda like that improved ai in rome 2, eh? Seems anytime they are "proud" of something, it means its complete rubbish and they know it.

Normal land battles are not fun, way too short, everything dies too fast, realism is GONE, instead its arcadey as possible.

You can concede defeat while the enemy is hacking away at your soldiers and somehow all your troops just teleport away no problemo without any damage. Surrounding enemy units and breaking their morale....makes them walk away. Yup, they just walk through your units despite being completley surrounded, unlike in previous games where they would stand and fight to the death because theres no escape. Which is a proble with heroes/lords because they just walk past your units and often times if your infantry units cant hold them in place, they start walking with the enemy, trying to attack it, but it just looks like they are escorting him off the battlefield, its really silly.

Weapons on your units don't matter other than for stats. There is NO difference between a halberd infantry, a sword and shield infantry, and a spear infantry. They all fight the same, the only difference is their stats, models, and animation. No longer to swordsmen go up and close and get an advantage over spear infantry, no, now its just stats that say "This unit is better than this unit".

All melee cav are the same, all melee infantry are the same, all ranged bow infantry are the same, etc. Large units are kinda exempt from this from what I have seen so far, but I might be wrong.

So far from what I have seen magic doesn't really do very much, its very weak, buffs are ok tho, thats it. This might be because I play on max unit size, and I heard that on max unit size, magic is garbage, and on smallest unit size, magic is op, this is because magic doesn't scale depending on unit scale.

Also, campaign map is pretty barebones. I don't mind how dumbed down it is TOO much, I have liked their attempts at streamlining empire management. In previous games like medieval 2, late game it takes way too long to go through everything every turn, so i appreciate improvements there, but I also hate the things they have removed or diluted.

TL;DR Battles suck, games dumbed down, and only reason I care at all is because it's Warhammer and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside to see karl franz smack around some chaos warriors (Which are on the disc day one dlc lol!)

As for pros? Graphics, models, animations, factions do feel very different which I can say they did a pretty good job on that. And they did a pretty good job with making it look like Warhammer.

I can't really think of any other pros, everything else is just too minor to bother mentioning as a pro/con, or are just neutral.

Rome 2 vaniilla or Rome 2 Emperor Edition?

The former? No. Rome 2 was god awful when it released, I was really disappointing in that game, didn't bother buying it, didn't buy atilla either.

Rome 2 Emperor Edition after all the patches? Yes.

Now, MAYBE once Warhammer gets all its dlc and patches it will be better than Rome 2,but I doubt it. Even with more content, unit, factions, bigger map, it still won't fix one glaring problem....

The battles are hot garbage and easily the worst battles in the entire franchise, even with the addition of magic, and heroes, and flying units, and things like poison or fire damage, and large creatures.

Honestly I think TW is just going to go the way of Bethesda. Dumbing down, lesser quality, more overpriced dlc.

Why put effort and love and detail in your games if you can do an easier job for cheaper and still make tons of money?

Buying or not buying it, boycotting or not boycotting, makes no difference, not enough people are upset/care for SEGA and CA to take notice.

Total War: Warhammer is 12 bucks on humble bundle monthly if anyone cares. If you are like me and don't really like giving SEGA money because of how they act, they are only getting like, 4 dollars tops, rest is split between all the other games you get in the bundle and "charity".

After playing a decent amount, I can say, it's the worst total war game in then franchise, and the one and only thing that saves it, is the fact that it's Warhammer. I look forward to this mod even more now that I have played the game.

Still, for the price, you can't go wrong.

Gameplay tho is pretty terrible, most dumbed down total war game to date, I haven't bought a total war game in years and it seems that won't ever change due to how the devs want to "appeal" to as many people as possible.
