I highly recommend getting this installer: Splashdamage.com
And follow my tips to set up things nicely: Newerth.com
Had zero problems by doing that. (using win7)

If you were unable to find an existing solution then sure, post to the thread.

When you spawn, you need to choose your spawn location on the map. You can either click garrison icon or stronghold icon. I presume you're going through the human tutorial. Look the map carefully when you're told to spawn at garrison (it should be in the lower left corner) :)

The combat system has always been the same. What I have heard is that when S2Games released their flagship title "Savage: The Battle for Newerth" nearly a decade ago, noone realised the potential the melee system had. Even the developers were clueless of how successful melee system they came up with. That is why the game reviewers didn't praise it. During the years, players invented the style we know nowadays by trial and error. Groundbreaking moment was when some smart guy figured that you could use beast's leap to get around human's 180 degree block arch. At that point "backstab" was invented. People had preferred "carnivorous" to "rabid" but when this new backstabbing technique spread, rabid quickly became the new trend. But there is more to this. Backstab was just the core of beast melee style. After some time had passed, humans adapted to the change and learned how to predict and block simple backstabs. That led to figuring out more advanced moves to trick humans. Beast players started to do multileaps, fake hits and rapid changes in attacking direction. People realised that the move variations were endless and only limited by imagination. And what's beautiful about this is that every player can develop their own personal and unique style. Likewise you can recognise people from their handwriting, you can recognise players just by spectating their melee style. :)

Haha, awesome to hear! I'm that "guy flying around like a mental" in the duel demonstration. :DDD You can become as good as me but it takes years of practice. For me it took 2 years of training to reach that skill level. I started by watching these videos tutorials: Youtube.com Youtube.com Youtube.com Then I trained the moves they showed on Martial Arena -server. First I tested these moves on npcs and after I got confident in excuting them I started to duel real opponents. I also asked other players to teach me and give me feedback on what to train next. Don't be afraid to ask for help in game! There is always someone willing to show you the ropes.

Oh sorry! I meant file called "startup.cfg" and not "autoexec.cfg". They are in the same directory though

Here's a good guide that tells what to do when you experience problems with auto-updater: Newerth.com

Hope it helps! ;)

There are hundreds of servers available. If you dont see them, check if firewall or antivirus is blocking the access and always run game as Administrator. Dunno how this works in Desura launcher though. You can always download the game from somewhere else than Desura

Nothing groundbreaking, probably just new patches every now and then. There are rumours that S2Games would develop Savage 3 though. It would most likely be closer to Savage 1 than to Savage 2 since S2Games realise Savage 2 was a flop. Here's what eSports's dad, djWHEAT, thinks about the matter: Youtube.com

Never had this kind of problem but seems like you got too big resolution set for savage. Go to your Savage directory, then "game" directrory and open file called autoexec.cfg with Notepad (or similar program, I dunno which OS you got). If you got windows, you can press ctrl+f and search keyword "vid_mode". Once you have found it, edit the number next to it. Number 1 is 640x480 resolution and 17 is 1920x1080. Since your resolution was too big, try setting a smaller number there. Once you get the game display somewhat fine, go to Options > System and set the resolution to your screen's native one.

Not at all. Only things that are common with WoW are fantasy theme, 3rd person view and some rpg elements which are very minor though.

It's a team-deathmatch game where you shoot with guns in 1st person mode (as if it was Quake 3) or hack you enemies down with melee weapons in 3rd person mode (as if it was Rune: Halls of Valhalla) or you can command your team, gather resources, build buildings and research tech (as if it was Warcraft 3). Your team wins when you get enemy's main building down. You need real mouse aiming skills in Savage unlike in WoW where you got autotargeting. You gain exp during matches and it slightly boosts some of your abilities (like hp, stamina, melee dmg) but exp is reseted after each match. Exp doesn't matter much though. Lvl 1 veteran player can easily kill max lvl noob because what matters is your personal hand-eye-coordination, reflexes, spatial perception and cunning.

Try downloading the game directly from www.newerth.com . Desura's launcher may cause this problem
