There are a lot of people out there on your feeble planet who I find do not fully enjoy a sandwich. Maybe it's because you humans lack the capacity to truly enjoy simple foods? Maybe you think as long as you slap something between two slices of bread, not really mattering what it is, it's a sandwich? Let me tell you Earthlings something, crafting a truly good sandwich is an art.
Many people believe the bread is just a vessel to hold the yummy intestines of the sandwich. While this may be true, what would happen to a spaceship (or one of your primitive water craft for that matter) if the vessel was not good? It would be disasterous. The same is true of a sandwich, you use your Wonder bread and of course you're in for an awful tasting sandwich.
You must have a good vessel for the sandwich, whether it be a bun, sliced bread, even just crackers, the main point is that it is tasty and compliments the ingredients. You don't throw a corned beef sandwich on white, you throw it on rye, why? Because they go good together you stupid Earthlings, the same is true with other types of bread and other ingredients.
Therefore in order to select an appropriate vessel you must first select the ingredients: Simple, meat and cheese right? Typical Earthlings, never thinking out of the box, if all you ever have is meat and cheese of course your sandwiches are getting bland and old! Bread with a mild flavour such as the standard white or whole wheat can have pretty much ANYTHING that's solid and edible thrown between them and it is a sandwich.
In short, pick whatever your heart desires, whether it be meat and cheese, apricots, strawberry cheesecake, use spread if desired and choose the proper vessel. I guarantee you your boring old Earth sandwiches will be a lot less boring!
