Thanks for the detailed reply! The special power-ups are intended to really pop during the gameplay, and we've made them quite intense. In the second GIF the player has picked up "Ecto Flesh Container" which makes you spray red particles of death around you for a limited time.

We've been overhauling all of the maps previously made and gave them a bit more crowded and more interesting art style. Here's a good comparison from earlier this year: Media.indiedb.com
