This guide will walk you through the process of replacing Mecha-King Ghidorah (or potentially Jet Jaguar, if you wish - untested) in the Xbox version of Godzilla: Save The Earth.

NOTE: This guide will only cover the modification of the game's files. I cannot help you with softmodding your Xbox console nor any of the file transferring process. I am here to teach you how to restore Biollante, not to teach you how to use various different programs. If you need a guide for anything besides the actual editing of the game's files, Google is your friend.

Pre-requisites:

  • A softmodded Xbox, or an Xbox emulator that can run Godzilla: Save The Earth at an acceptable performance (which does not exist yet, but this is for all you futurians out there).
  • A hex editor, and preferably some basic knowledge on how to use one (though the operations performed in this guide are simple enough for a first-time user to pull off without any prior experience).
  • Some method to transfer modified files back and forth between the console and a PC.
  • Some basic knowledge on how to navigate the file system of a softmodded Xbox is required.
  • The willingness to lose either Mecha-King Ghidorah or Jet Jaguar.

Guide:

  1. Dump your copy of Godzilla: Save The Earth to your Xbox's hard drive.
  2. Locate the file "ControlRoom.bdl" in the game's "ShellData" folder and transfer it to your PC using your preferred method (I prefer FTP).
  3. Once the file is on your PC, open it with your preferred hex editor.
  4. Using your hex editor's "Find and Replace" feature, replace every reference to either "mghidorah" or "jetjaguar" with "biollante". This should result in either six "mghidorah" references being replaced or 25 "jetjaguar" references.
  5. Once that is finished, save the file.
  6. Send the file back to your Xbox and replace the original file.

When you launch the game, Mecha-King Ghidorah's/Jet Jaguar's icon should still appear in the character select menu, but the stats, name, and splash image should all be Biollante's. Congratulations. You have just successfully restored Biollante as a playable character at the cost of an existing character.

To use her, you may need to either use the "Unlock Everything" code (246518) or purchase her from the game's store for zero points.

You may notice, however, that the AI is absolutely clueless on how to use Biollante. Read below to see how to potentially fix the issue.

NOTE: This was only briefly tested, but I do believe it worked well enough in all modes.

  1. Locate the file "ConventionalGame.bsf" in the game's "ActionData" folder and transfer it to your PC using your preferred method.
  2. Open the file with your preferred hex editor.
  3. Replace all references to either "mghidorah" or "jetjaguar" with "biollante".
  4. Save the file and send it back to your Xbox.

This should, in theory, fix the AI issues.

Man, all i've ever wanted is to play as biollante.. I follow your guide word for word. The images are the same size and everything, but pcsx2 won't recognize it as a ps2 image. Any ideas??

I put the pak1.lp files in the 1.8 mod's pak1.lp Game/Disk/Runtime, copied that into my steam/steamapps/common/Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2, ran the setup.bat, and it still crashes after starting the game.

What is setup.bat? The setup for the mod? If so, put those files in after installing the mod. See if that works.
