2014.09.19 Boss 101 - More fun FOR YOU! (and other stuff)

DonleyTimeFoundation Blog

Welcome back one and all!

So here we are halfway through September and Boss 101 has been jamming along nicely. Check out the SPIFF shot of the Intro Screen below!

Ok – now that you checked that out let’s talk a little about the project shall we?

Core Engine Tech - Well in place as we speak. Most of the upcoming work is (thankfully) related to polish and testing what we already have versus outright creating stuff from scratch. I can't say we are TOTALLY in the clear but I DO feel very good about what I see coming.

Gameplay - this is always being tested and refined. The general motto is "if it's fun, it stays". That was the way the web version of Boss 101 was created and that’s the way the PC/Console version is scoped out. It's REALLY important to make sure YOU enjoy the game. We want you to have fun while blasting bosses as well as have fun hanging out in the Command Center while S.T.E.V.E. and Max chatter away (and also get a visit or three from R.O.B.)

Game modes – there are a few new game modes for Boss 101 over the old Web version. They are intended to give YOU something new and fresh. We’ll introduce them over the next few months but I think can I drop a HINT at one of them. Three words - “ENDLESS BOSS MODE”! How’s THAT SOUND!?!?

Weapons – We spoke about this one before but there are a LOT more weapons in this version. You’re looking at 40 plus weapons and if you add in the properties you get from hats and upgrades that number shoots WAY UP. Again – this is all about giving you a tailor made experience and making Boss 101 YOUR GAME!

Levels – that is the topic of the moment in the Donley Time Foundation Labs. We’re cranking on NEW worlds and NEW adventures for YOU to see and explore. You’re not just chugging around Earth anymore – you’re hopping all over the galaxy looking for Boss 101.

I want to take a moment to also THANK YOU and our other friends and family we’ve made. We appreciate you checking out the blogs and new updates. We’re putting together more news than ever before because we want you to know about the state of the union and be as excited as we are. This game is FUN and we are having a blast making it. We are also HYPED to get it to YOU so you can enjoy it too.

As always – if you have any comments or questions – drop us a line here or at hello @ donleytimefoundation . com (remove spaces)

Best,

-Tim

Oh, yeah - there's animation TOO! Here's a sample....

2014.09.15 Boss 101

DonleyTimeFoundation Blog

Hello and thank you for stopping by this blog. What I'm hoping to do here is drop notes and updates about the game we're working on called Boss 101. This is a sequel to the web game I made which you can check out on Newgrounds or Kongregate if you like.

That said - here is what it's about - a boy and his jetpack saving the world. They do this by beating on the bosses who are attempting to take over not only Earth but most of the known universe. Sound familiar? Maybe but the thing here is you are in charge not only of outfitting yourself but you get to roll YOUR OWN BOSS! That's right, each level and each boss is basically designed by you with the magical MAKE-A-BOSS generator (see image):

From that machine you end up with this kind of stuff:

Fear not we have some sweet weapons for you! (a small sample below)

And a totally overpowered particle cannon!

And when you need some fashion help and stylish upgrades we have HATS!!

Selling cool animated lids like these:

Yep it's you, along with STEVE (the jetpack) and Max (the kid) fighting your way across the known universe looking to confront the dreaded BOSS 101!

Some sample screenshots!

Roboshark boss versus Steve and Max with a BOW AND ARROW!!!

Some Croco-spider Boss getting wasted!

OK - much more to come and thanks for reading and hanging in there!!

Best,

-Tim

2014.04.24 - Boss 101 Sequel well underway!

DonleyTimeFoundation Blog

Hello everyone and I hope this marks the beginning of a much more regular posting schedule!

I want to thank each and every one of you for taking a moment to read the blog and respond. I do respond to all the letters and communication I get and each comment means a lot to me. I love that people have enjoyed some of the games I have made and really appreciate the kind words.

Feel free to drop me a line ANYTIME at tim (at) donleytimefoundation (dot) com – just remove the spaces and replace the symbols – YOU KNOW!

So, we’re about 1 month into full development on the sequel and a lot has been happening. The art for all the main weapons is in as well as all the new minion art. There are about 40 new weapons for the player. There are also 40 new minions in the game – this is up from the original game’s 5 or so weapons and 25 minions. Quite an upgrade and the weapons are across the board more awesome (at least they are fun – we can promise). You’ll love the new command center and the cosmic planning map. The game is really built around giving you MORE of what you liked in Boss 101 (and Cosmic Clicks). There is a ton of dialog as well as the Make-A-Boss generator. Of course, STEVE, Max and ROB (from Cosmic Clicks) are all in there with the usual wisecracks!Check out the images below and come visit us on our Facebook page or on the main website! Either way – we would love to hear from you!Thank you and take care!

Meet the Minions!

Bring on the new guys! In the continuing series to show you how awesome the next Boss 101 game will be we present – The New Minions! Remember those clowns in Boss 101’s web version? Well, they got all dressed up for the PC/Console port and are looking to kick serious tail this time around. Don’t expect chumpy pushovers. Check below for a comparison from the OG crew and the new hotness! DO IT!

Some stuff for fun...What if?YES!! In the "wouldn't it be nice" category we have this awesome Boss 101 pixel art by one of our own at the Foundation. I can't tell you how happy this made me. So happy I want it on a shirt *and* I want to make a Gameboy version of Boss 101 just to use this as a title screen.

From a while back... hehe

Here’s an oldie piece from 2006 or so. This was just something done for fun but who knows! Maybe Boss 101 was on my mind even then!
